So about a week ago, we had a water supply line burst(upstairs bathroom), so of course the end result disaster. Wondering if anyone went with their insurance contractor for repairs or their own? Any pros and cons of going with insurance contractor vs someone else? T. I. A

We went with our own contractor. We choose to get a check cut to us and we paid the contractors ourselves. But we did have to provide proof to the insurance company that the money was used for repairs.

We went with our own. Insurance wrote a check out to the mitigation company we used and than a check to us for the rest of the work that needed to be done.

We had this happen in our basement the day before Easter- but raw sewage. It was a disaster. Insurance sent in the cleaners and sanitize team; and paid them directly. We were able to pick contractors on our own; and they pay us after we supply invoice.

We have had a couple of disasters including a house fire and last year our upstairs plumbing failed and ruined the main floor ceilings . My advise is to not use a mitigation company . You lose all control of how the repairs are done and who does it. I hired my own contractor who was responsible to me not the insurance company.

So. Ditto. All three floors trashed. I basically got a whole new interior. We went with the insurance contractor and it was a bloody mess. I had to be on their collective asses daily to get things done. We had to move out for 4 months. Had I not gone to the house daily and then followed up all the damn time- It might have been longer.

Yup. All but my office on the first floor got nailed. The prob was that the insurance had one General manager handling my claim. He had like 4-6 different trades men. They were ALL doing work on a lot of different properties at the same time. So it would be DAYS maybe even a week or two before ANYTHING would move after something was completed. I finally called my adjuster and was like look, either you tell him to get his shit together or I'm going to take over and it won't be pretty. I worked in insurance as an adjuster for years, and had this been a claim on MY desk. the GM would have lost the job and a new one assigned. Plus side. I got hardwood on the whole first floor where I didn't have that before.
