So my 14 yr old son is having sever pain in his left calf. He says it has been hurting for a while. I thought it was just a muscle cramp but he s as us it doesn't go away. When I rub it I can feel how tight it is. Any ideas on how to help him? I have tried heat, ice and massage.

2 things that have really helped my kids is. Natural calm ( magnesium) The fascia blaster We use both of these on a regular basis in our home, especially with muscle cramps, growing pains, pulled muscles, etc.

Is it warm to touch or red? If so could be blood clot or infection

@willaims3 no, not red or hot to touch.

Call the doctor as others have said. My son had calf pain and it hurt to walk when he was 10. It was right after he was sick with a fever. The virus moved down to his calf and he ended up having viral myositis. We ended up going to the hospital to put him on an IV. Hopefully it is nothing but better to make sure.

Put Epsom salt, lot of it, (read directions on package) in hot water bathtub and have him sit in it. It will prob help. Its at Walgreens, Walmart by the pharmacy. It’s cheap.

My daughter is a competitive cheerleader and in turn, tumbles often. She had a similar situation where her calf muscles would tighten up after/during tumbling classes. We have an athletic foam roller so she can roll out her legs when she stretches and hydrate hydrate hydrate!

We use blu emu or tiger balm you can get both at Walmart. And then I would make sure he's drinking enough water and or something with electrolytes

Once you rule out anything more serious with your doctor. We see kids and teens for all kinds of leg pains, knee/ankle/hip issues at my practice. Many times the pelvis is out of balance which changes the gait which can cause all kinds of issues in the lower extremities. A few mild adjustments has been the quick solution for these issues. Happy to chat further if you want by PM. My office number is 6303558988 as well.

I took him today. They said it is just his muscle and to stretch and massage. If it doesn't get better in 2 weeks then he may have to do PT. Thank you all for your info!
