I tried Magic Eraser but also faded the wood, slightly lighter in that spot now and magic marker still there, only a little faded

Or go. over it with dry erase marker. I know that works on a white board.

Vaseline/petroleum jelly. Rub it in. It should break up the permanent marker. What brand of marker?

Toothpaste, not gel or gritty, with a damp cloth and lots of elbow grease.

Yes to the dry erase marker. don't use magic eraser or any other liquid solutions like alcohol or nail polish remover. Those will all take the finish off your table and will actually make it harder to get the sharpie off.

If the wood is well varnished the dry erase marker will work. if the wood is not varnished and sealed the dry erase maker will not work.
