Q about medical bills after insurance payments. without the gory details, after an accident, our auto insurance covered the majority of the medical bills but we hit the dollar cap and some were denied. The amount still due is reasonable, and we’ve received the insurance statements saying what was/wasn’t covered (which is how i know what is still owed, but we have yet to receive a bill. It’s now been 4 months. I’m afraid they’re going to skip sending a bill and send them straight to collections if they haven’t already. What do I do? Do I call each provider individually and ask where the bill is? Do I call the insurance company? I’m ready and willing to pay them but I’ve seen things get sent to collections even when the bill was paid so I don’t want to get screwed here.

I would call my insurance company first. Then I would call the providers. My doctors office used to send things 5-6 months after at times.

We pay ours monthly. as long as we pay something they don’t consider our bill delinquent.

Yes, CALL. Do not wait until they put them in collections. Some providers will write off the difference after insurance pays and consider it settled. Others will not. Be proactive. You are just calling to make sure everything got paid. Most, if not all will work with you to set up reasonable pmts

I’m just now getting some from November as well. Like our peds just put a statement in the System. I don’t want anymore bills but I know we will have more coming from our hospital visits last year.  we had a 23, 000 children’s hospital stay that was thankfully covered. When we don’t use insurance I’m like is this worth it but when we need it I am BEYOND grateful!

Call them! I work for a hospital that never sent me a bill for a "copay" on an office visit for $30. Never sent me a bill, never called. I literally work 2 floors above the billing dept at least 40+ hours a week. Made ZERO sense.

Do you have regular health insurance too? Our current health insurance is actually our primary on auto accidents and then the auto policy covers the leftover but we have had it in the past where the auto is primary and health insurance secondary. It might be that the providers are billing them now and will bill you after that. It can’t hurt to check in with them and find out.

Well I have health insurance, but my fiancee did not at the time (does now), so our auto policy was covering it. It was nothing major. One emergency room visit (nothing found) which ate up what auto insurance would pay, and two follow up doctor visits. Total we owe about $1000, which we have, I just need a dang bill lol!

I would check your explanation of benefits and match with bills. If missing bill then call the provider.
