Health Insurance ?  I have great insurance through my employer.Health Insurance ? I have great insurance through my employer. However, my kids qualify for Medicaid. I’ve had my kids on my insurance for a couple years now and we are established with great doctors, dentists, specialists. With re-enrollment right around the corner, I am wondering if I should cancel their insurance and use strictly Medicaid. It would free up $130ish a month. I currently have approximately $24, 000 in debt ($13, 000 being student loans I am not yet obligated to pay as I’m still in school). I plan on paying the majority of it with my recent grant and tax refund (credit cards, medical & eviction from 4 years ago). I am struggling, financially, and seem to barely slide by each month. However, I am very happy with my kids health care providers! Also, my oldest needs braces, so if I keep our dental plan, I can up my payments and pay $40 a month with a $1500 orthodontic lifetime maximum. I could essentially add more to my HSA each month by cancelling their insurance and still use it to help cover unpaid medical bills, and pay for my own unpaid medical.

Health insurance is something really important to me and the brief time I had to use medi-cal I hated it. Also they will NOT let me out of it. I’ve called a million time and been on hold countless hours. I’ve been told my kids no longer are covered via Medi-cal and I still get all their stuff in the mail. I still get new cards in the mail. I still get benefit information in the mail. And I still get bills for $30 every month that I don’t pay. It’s like they don’t want to let me leave and it’s weird. We are currently enrolled in private insurance. As long as I’m able, I’ll never give up our health insurance.
