Tax season is upon us. Wanted to know how others file. I usually do standard taxes but I moved to a co op. I have a mortgage and maintenance that I could put on my taxes. Should I itemize or keep filing the standard way. ?

We use h&r block software. It asks for your deductions and then shows you which way would be best

I run a small business, and take all the stuff to a CPA. She calls me and asks for whatever info isn't there, I hunt around for it, eventually it gets done. I used to do it myself but things have gotten more complicated. Seems like just organizing all the info and receipts is enough work for me, I don't want to do the rest of it.

I run a tax firm so I have one of my advisors file my taxes. As for your question on the itemize vs standard deduction, how many expenses do you have for 2019?

Just mortgage & maintenance. dont have any medical expenses. Guess standard would be better for me.

If your total itemized deductions are greater than the standard deduction then itemize. Itemized deductions are medical expenses, taxes paid, mortgage and investment interest, charitable contributions and certain miscellaneous deductions.

I file on my own and for relatives/friends. I use the IRS approved FreeTaxUSA. It’s worked well for me since 2007. Only one person I know itemizes and that is due to the amount of mortgage interest, property tax, health/medical expenses and charitable contributions. Theirs is more than the standard deduction so they itemize.

I just used Credit Karma. It's actually free and it was pretty easy. I'm happy with the process

Just as a side note for military members, you can file your taxes with H&R block through Military One Source for free, just make an account on both and you can use the software.
