Question out of curiosity.  Why do people wait to pay bills on the due date instead of paying the bill when you get paid?Question out of curiosity. Why do people wait to pay bills on the due date instead of paying the bill when you get paid? Example being: Cable bill due on the 8th of the month, and you get paid the 1st of the month. Why not pay it on the first when you get paid? I’m genuinely curious, because I like to have all my bills taken care of right away.

I pay all my bills for the month on the 1st of the month no matter their due dates and fill my envelopes on the 1st as well. Then i don’t think about paying anything except my babysitter on Friday’s (I’d pay her on the 1st for the month too if she would let me lol)

Personally, before I started this journey I did it because I was always short on cash and wanted to wait until that day to make sure I had the funds in case something else popped up between payday and due date. Since changing my habits and realizing how much I was spending on Amazon and eating out I have enough money to know that I don’t have to wait until the day of.

I pay mine when we get paid, if no new money is coming in I don’t see the point in waiting

I get paid every other Friday and my fiancé is every Friday. He pays majority of the rent and all of the utilities. So I make bill payments once a week according to the due date. We have started a strict budget and created 3 envelopes. One for Fun, Savings and Grocery. Everything else gets paid directly from our accounts.

I pay mine as soon I get paid that way I can do other things with the money left without worrying some bills are not paid, always put a ✔ when I paid the bill even the due date is far that way I know is taking care off

I pay mine before they're due like you. I get paid the 15th and last day of month. The 15th I pay things coming due the 16th-EOM AND that includes setting aside my car & student loan bills that come out around 22nd ish. I think it has to do with how you learn to bill pay or retrain yourself. When a bill comes out, I either have it budgeted or set aside already so I never need stress about bills. I just need to do better at budgeting my food/household/entertainment funds so it's more helpful and proactive vs whimsical. Lol.

In the past I management money horribly. But now that I’m budgeting, everything that’s being paid from that check gets paid on payday. So all my bills for this month were paid on 24th. And when my husband gets paid on the 31st it will take care of bis for the first few days in Feb.

I have my bills on auto pay for the exact due date, on my credit card. I pay my credit card before the due date.

I guess it is personal preference but I too pay all my bills ahead of time unless it’s on autopayment

I would think that it’s because those bills are on auto pay!

Sometimes there’s not enough to cover everything so people have to pay bills by priority

The only bills that don't get paid right away are the ones that are taken out out automatically like Netflix or Gym membership. Everything else gets paid right away!

I used to wait to pay mine until the due date because I was never sure when I'd have the money. No I pay them all and the budget the rest of my money. So much less stress!

All of my bills are automatically paid, but in my checkbook they come out when I get paid. I always have a running actual total of what my available funds are.

I pay them all on the 1st when we get paid. To me it’s much easier and that way I know I haven’t forgotten.

This is a great question, thanks for asking. I too am curious as to answers! Unfortunately, I am one of those people that wait until the due date and pay the bill then. Idk why it’s just something I’ve always done. I think secretly I like to just watch the money sit in my account which sounds ridiculous BUT it always leads to that money being spent on other things it should be. My goal for this year is to lay what is due the same week as we get paid. Hubby and I are biweekly but opposite weeks so we have income coming in each week. This was a fail for January but I plan to implement it for Februarys budget Hoping it eases things.

I pay all the bills I can when I get paid on the first of the month. Then some bills are on automatic pay, like the phone and cable, I subtract those out. What money that is left is any charge card bills that come due, I pay when I get them in the mail. So yes, I try to pay most of my bills when I get paid.

I have some bills that I can't pay ahead of time, unfortunately, which sucks because I would prefer to do that. So I am stuck paying on the actual due date. However, with bills I could pay ahead of time, I do pay ahead of time.

I break all my bills up and pay all bills either on the 15th or 30/31st. It helps us stay ahead too.

We get paid twice a month and I sit down the day after each payday to pay everything due up until the next paycheck. I have only a couple things on autopay.

Girl, I don’t know. I’ve always paid them on payday, and then my dh thought he should be Incharge of the family finances. He’d always spend the $$ before paying the bills and then they were late and over drafting

Ours are on a budget plan and auto pay. So Bill's like comed and nicor are pretty consistent throughout the year and we dont get hit with big bills during winter/summer months. My life is too busy to remember what day to log in and pay the bills. This way they are just auto deducted with no issues on our end.

I pay my bills ahead, now, with each paycheque. I still have to double check to make sure it is paid.

All of my bills like that are on auto pay. I used to pay as soon as I got my check on the ones I could, but I finally had to let that go and just let them come out on the days they're scheduled. I was obsessing over all of it and way to stressed out. Now that I'm budgeting, I can let that happen because I know the money is there.

Preference. Also if you are living on a tight budget something may happen where you need the cable bill money. Opposed to having already spent it. Everyone isn’t where you are.
