Hi mamas, as the school year is quickly approaching us I have been thinking and thinking what will I do for my little girl as she just completed Kindergarten? I know sending her to public school (Liberty) will be out of the question for me due to this Coronavirus. In the past she has gone to private Lutheran schools for preschool and I was extremely pleased and happy with that. I would like for her to go to a private school this upcoming year. what are my options ? Are there virtual schools opening ? Thoughts on this mamas?

I am a teacher not in Plainfield and I think the important thing to remember is everything people are hearing right now is possibilities and options, but NOTHING is set in stone. I think giving schools and districts the upcoming months to plan will result in much better options than a very quick quarantine with a scramble to do the best we could with little to no training. Every district is being encouraged to have a plan A, plan B and plan C. Which would be full return, groups in alternate days and full remote learning. Even with a full return social distancing like lunch in classrooms, no shared supplies and deeper cleaning and sanitizing will have to be in effect. I just urge you not to make decisions based on what happened these last few months. I think educators, parents and teachers will agree it has been a cluster but everyone has tried to put forth what they can with what they have. Now come early August if there is not a solid plan in place then I think it’s time to worry. No judgement just wanted to give you a different perspective. Wishing you all the best and great jobs supporting your kid’s learning the best you could this spring!

Thank you for this! I needed to read this perspective.

Just wondering what the difference would be sending her to a private vs public school.
by (1.4k points)
@topper11392 I really liked the curriculum included learning about the Bible and God .

@stabler10 I totally understand. I was reading the post that you were not sending her to public because of the coronavirus. Now I understand

@topper11392 I took it that way too.

Sorry there are a variety of factors as to why I don't want to send her back to the same school. I loved her teachers and everyone was awesome when they were inside of the actual school !

You want your daughter to stay out of public because of corona?

@estimable I’m worried about the cleanliness. How can you social distance kids if you have 25 of them in a classroom! But- this teaching from home is a hot mess! I knew there was a reason I didn’t become a teacher lol

@estimable I have cancer and am immune compromised and I personally would feel safer sending her to a school with smaller classroom sizes and maybe something that is all virtual.

@stabler10 so sorry to hear about you having cancer, prayers sent your way.

@kedron No decisions have been made for the 2020-2021 school year for district 202.

@kedron I have a baby and the online learning requires too much of me to be teaching. I’m looking for someone to teach her for me.

I think 90% of us moms want our schools back open. If virtual schools where to open those will come with a very fancy fee not all of us are willing to pay. The state heck the country is reopening malls, restaurants, public places why wouldn’t our school be able to do the same? I heard some weird things like schools won’t resume until January 2021 and some other crazy stuff. I have 3 kids under 10 and homeschooling has been very challenging for all us.

@esthonia1914 U obviously did one , please share the results

@bonnell10 no I did not if you read my comment correctly it says “ I think” not “surveys shows” this was my opinion that I put together from Other moms I’ve spoken to. We are all entitled to our own opinions you can however; do your own research and share your findings.

@esthonia1914 got it. Opinions on this subject would be based on circumstances
by (10.4k points)
@bonnell10 My opinion is currently based on current circumstances. Virus is here to stay. Stay home order was put in place so hospitals wouldn’t get overwhelmed, now that they are more equipped and trained for this they are reopening. We will see many different strains of this it won’t go away. Yet life goes on and we need to learn to live it. No need to reply back back. Don’t care about your so given opinions.

@esthonia1914  So u r entitled to keep commenting on your opinions, mo facts just opinions, but don't care about my given opinions. Hilarious. I think I heard enough

My daughter also jus finished kindergarten and I don’t think I could ever teach her as well as the teachers do. Especially being a working parent and I also have a 4 month old I don’t see how homeschooling would work for us

An option for a Christian private school is Little Explorers Christian Montessori in Romeoville. They traditionally have been a preK school-Kindergarten school, but have expanded to grades 1-3. It’s a very small school. I can’t speak to if there are virtual options. Our children attended there through Kindergarten and it was a beautiful education.

There are quite a few catholic schools in the area to look at , not sure what distance you are willing to travel or there is the option to pay for bussing to the private school as some do not offer that option at no cost. My daughter goes to St. Paul The Apostle in Joliet and they have nice small classes there. The Diocese has many schools to choose from if you are looking for something closer to home, it can be costly but there are lots of ways to get financial aid to make it feasible.

I don't see why one would think a private school would be cleaner than a public school. I'm fine with my son going back to school in the fall. I'm over all of this.

@usherette89767 ditto. This is now life and we need to learn to deal with it.
by (10k points)
@usherette89767 I think she meant a school with less kids in classrooms and ready to do virtual learning if necessary because the mom is battling cancer. She is only asking for opinions on schools , nothing else.

There are LOTS of things that are way up in the air currently and how school will be handled is one of them. Honestly NO ONE KNOWS right now. Most likely there will be 2 shifts of kids, one half of the alphabet will come two days a week, the other half the on two different days per week. It SUCKS. The teachers know it. The parents know it. The kids know it. But it is what it is. I do not think it will matter where your kid goes, it will be different than it's been before and it will be weird. They will limit class sizes in some way, specials may be done in the rooms instead of going to the special's room. There are a million things that are being considered at every single school and daycare. They are trying to figure out the safest way to keep the staff and kids healthy and still learning. With that in mind remember that it is the WHOLE WORLD, every single kid, in every single district, in every single country that will be losing a lot of learning. The teachers know that too. This past spring was confusing, the teachers and schools had a few weeks to work out the details. For fall they will have months. SO don't make a decision yet. Buy a summer workbook for your child's grade level and have them do a few pages each day, no stress, just a few, Give them a reward for doing it if need be. An M&M per kid is usually enough for the lower grades, lol. And as hard as it is, just enjoy having fun for now.

I know, it's just a logistical nightmare no matter what is done

My daughter just finished Kindergarten at Bethany Lutheran School Naperville, IL. It’s our third year there. We love the small class sizes, the curriculum and the family feel of the school. I’d be happy to answer any questions you have!
