The weekend after Christmas he began with a tummy bug that would come and go until middle of January. So he ate less. I’ve taken him to the dr because of the tummy bug and because he lost 6lbs in 1 month. he’s still not eating as much as he used to, and is now down another 3lbs in a month. There are days he eats good, and days I feel like I’m forcing him to eat. He was on the heavier side so his dr did not seem concerned with the beginning 6lb weight loss since there really were no other issues going on. His dr also said the stomach thing may have been from the antibiotic he was put on. There still are no other issues, I do make him drink often so he does not become dehydrated. but I am at a loss of what to do, going to make another dr appt this week to see what his dr says now. but just seeing if anyone else’s child went through this, or did this? I’m going to buy him some pediasure this afternoon in hopes that he’ll atleast drink that to get nutrients and vitamins

Have you tried a probiotic? Antibiotics can really mess up the balance

I always give my kids a probiotic. It helps combat the tummy issues associated with antibiotics.

Even if the antibiotic was almost 2 mos ago? If so, which probiotics?

If the doctor isn't worried, I wouldn't be either. Also I'd try my best to stay away from doctor's offices right now.

I wouldn’t do pediasure - they have other lower sugar “protein” drinks for kids and our doctor told us pediasure isn’t always the best option. But if your doctor isn’t concerned - i wouldn’t be too stressed. My son is already skinny Minnie and when he gets sick loses 1-3 lbs all. The. Time. Doctor hasn’t expressed concern Also try florastar probiotic or gummy probiotics - his tummy could be messed from that still

My doctor told us to give our son high fat foods like milkshakes made with heavy whipping cream, carnation instant breakfast and condensed milk.

I’m sorry this has been a bad winter for illnesses. Sometimes when they’ve been sick for a long time, it takes awhile to get an appetite back. But it will come back. Maybe something simple like some saltine crackers and peanut butter, or cheese. Build up the immune system with vitamin C with fruits and supplements. Sometimes smaller meals and snacks more often as apposed to meals.

I would say it's from the antibiotics. They kill the bad bacteria as well as the good. So I would recommend a good probiotic to help repopulate his good gut bacteria. Avoid sugary foods and if you're going to give him high fat foods, they should be good fats like nuts and avocados.

This is the probiotic I give my kids if you're interested in looking into it.

My daughter is a terrible eater. We do V-8 juices and drinks. I just hope she gets some nutrients from those!
