Forks and spoons up or down in dishwasher?  Edit: Though it’s not my first time, I have a friendly debate going on.

Everything except knives, up. And I have a stupid ocd that each container will have same size forks or spoons so I can take them all at once and put back to their place:))))))

I do the same

@meshed that’s COMPLETELY relatable, let’s not get started on the groceries.

@arce1007 ohhhh, when i push my sour cream near my dairy products just because I know they all go together in my fridge on the same shelf, and at a point the cashier takes one and puts it with my potatoes ‍♀️

Forks and spoons up so they can get properly washed. If they face down and end up “spooning” each other they don’t get clean.

Up. Knives down.

Both! I put some up, some down so the spoons don’t “spoon” each other .

I put mine all sideways in the top (3rd) now but previously knives down all else up and mixed so they wouldn’t nest.

Down. Because who wants to grab the top of the utensil and use them to eat food with the part you touched.

Up! Very OCD about putting matching ones together so I can take them all out at once and put them away. When putting them away for those of you saying you don’t want to touch the side people eat with just wash your hands before unloading. No different than hand washing your utensils ‍♀️

Down. And I always group them together. All matching forks together, all matching spoons together etc. Makes putting them away so much easier.

Everything down. You don’t want to touch the part you eat off when you take them out. You want to grab them by the handles.

@slosh Totally agree!

Down! So you don't touch the part that goes in your mouth when you unload the dishwasher

Up. I put knives down in the slatted area though, so they don't knock around on each other. (not good, sharp knives, though. Handwash only) Just make sure who ever is unloading washes their hands good. (Sorry, lil bit of a germaphobe, here)

I was always taught down bc my younger sister would play near the dishwasher and they didn’t want her to fall on them. so kept it up since then!

For sanitation the part you eat off should be up. Learned this years ago and it was detailed by the health department when I worked in a restaurant.

Spoons and forks up, they don't get cleaned all the way in my experience pointing down, knives always pointed down.
