Any moms in here lease a car ? Specifically a roomy SUV. It’s time for a bigger car for us and we would like to try leasing. Both have excellent credit and would like to stay around $250 car payment . Is that even possible , or wishful thinking. Either way , tell me what suv works for your family with 2 car seats and a little extra room . No Minnie vans  I was interested but he’s not having it lol

I am on my third lease on a mini van that is the same price as an suv. It was about $450 and has jumped ridiculously high now my third year. You are only allowed 36, 000 mile which is really hard unless you stay pretty local.

@metronymic64872 I have never heard of a lease going higher in payments the third year. we had one for a Honda and our payments never budged.
by (1.7k points)
@reifel9 we didn’t put any money down the last few years so I am not sure if that was the reason.
by (1.1k points)
@metronymic64872 that could totally be! Damn!

@reifel9 I truly loved leasing but it is way to expensive now.

Possible for $250/month for a car, but you are looking at probably closer to $400-$600/month for a SUV. You will be restricted to miles too. Most leases how are quoted based on 10, 000 miles/year. You can get more miles, but your payment goes up.

@josefina I always thought leasing was cheaper
by (4.1k points)
@subtitle depends on how you define cheaper. You are renting a car for a set period of time. usually 36 months. I have been leasing since 1990. mostly because I get tired of my cars after 3 years. My last lease was in February 2019. this will be the last time also that I choose to lease. I went from a Chevy Traverse to a fully loaded Chevy Equinox. My lease payment is just under $400/month (I did pay to get 12, 000 miles/year). The only reason I even got the payment under $400/month was because I got a car with 2, 000 miles on it. the owner had been driving it. No other dealerships could come close to this lease payment. Most were in the high $400s all the way up to $600/month. We looked everywhere. Toyota, Ford, Jeep, Hyundai, Kia, Buick, etc. I don’t know what the money factors for leasing looks like now, but I had 3 minivans then 3 SUVs and my payment has never been less than $350/month.

We’ve leased before and you’ll save a little money a month, but having also just purchased a new SUV, a roomy one is upwards of $600 a month because the price is $50-$100k
by (4.1k points)
@reifel9 you will only get $600/month on a $50k vehicle if you finance for 7 years. Car prices have become insane.
by (1.1k points)
@josefina I know it’s unreal.

I lease a Jeep Grand Cherokee. A lot of people hate leasing, but I love it because I get bored easily and like a new car every few years‍♀️. It’s a lot more than $250 though
by (4.1k points)
@megathere76668 I’m the same. My husband has a company car that he has to pay a monthly stipend for and the car the kids drive is paid off. So I treat myself. Lol. And we use my car when we go out anywhere so I like peace of mind that there are no issues with it. And no maintenance aside from oils change and tire rotation really on a lease.
by (1.7k points)
@josefina exactly! We use ours for family vacations too! We do have to watch the mileage though, which kind of sucks, but I can’t wait to get a new color in 6 months‍♀️
by (2.7k points)
Plus it's great because you never have to pay for repairs, new tires or break jobs which is awesome
by (4.1k points)
@megathere76668 I work from home, have one in college and the other drives. I have only put 7, 000/miles on my car in a year so for leasing doesn’t really make sense anymore. So I will buy my next car in two years.

$250 will probably be impossible. Large SUVs are expensive. It honestly amazes me how many people drive them. I have purchased 1 new car in my life and was freaking out on a $330 car payment. That was a Honda CR-V and we put quit a bit down. When that car was totaled. I bought used from CarMax. Paid Cash. My mini van is actually a year older than my CR-V but I love no car payment! They say that the next “bubble” to bust will be auto loans.

I lease my Traverse. Leasing made more sense for me because A- I wanted a nicer car for less per month and B- cars are depreciating assets so we figured why invest in a car we don’t plan to drive into the ground C- I work from home and don’t even touch my 36k mile limit. That all being said, I don’t know if any SUV that’ll be that cheap. Maybe $350s for a mid sized SUV?

Unfortunately $250 is pretty unrealistic, I have a Yukon and I pay over $700 in a car payment leasing would still be about $600 a month
by (1.1k points)
@papaya we just bought a car and looked at Tahoe . to be around $600 we had to put $14, 500 down.
by (1.1k points)
@reifel9 holy crap, I bought slightly used and got a good deal. The prices of SUVs are out of control

If you buy a newer used model, it will be less expensive than new, and you will own it after 4-5 years. My Honda Pilot had room for 3 kid seat accommodations and has a third row for when you want/need to carpool, which is a godsend. My Pilot is a 2004, with 190, 000 miles and still runs great. I just had the original radiator and hoses replaced.

I lease a Chevy traverse and my lease is up in March so getting the 2020. I went to the Auto show to see if other bigger SUV’s were roomy and the Traverse is the roomiest.

I don’t lease but would be shocked if you can lease a roomy suv for that. I own a traverse

$250 is not possible for a lease. unless you’re going to put a ton of money down (which is like throwing it directly into the trash). My CRV is $370 and my F150 is $680. We have 810+ credit scores.
by (240 points)
@repetitive this. I dont understand it. Having to put $ dont to rent something. ‍♀️
by (2.5k points)
Yeah I’ve never put down a dime to lease any of my cars. that’s just silly. You turn it back in.

I own a fully loaded 2017 traverse with payment in the mid 400’s. I have no clue why a couple yr difference matters. everyone trading in a new vehicle every 3yrs just gave me a great deal on mine. It has every possible option and was 20k miles. And I can drive where and how far I want. I thought about leasing too at one point but the only thing that makes sense is buying used. The traverse is awesome but you’ll end up w probably 600/mo payment getting a 2020 model that is no nicer than mine and leasing the same price. Models don’t change that much yr to yr. Leasing is generally about the same price needing a down payment. put that down payment on an awesome used car and you’ll win both ways in getting what you want and low monthly payments.

I believe you can only lease new cars so 2020 is expensive. We are leasing for about $375 mazda cx9. Before we were leasing mazda 6 for $265 our credit is in the high 700. You also have to put down payment it is usually first month plus other fees. If you want even a lower payment you have you do a large down payment. Your car insurance will probably go up too, so look into that. Leasing a car is not necessarily cheap, it's for those that like new cars every 3 years. Some people end up buying the car or will pay penalties such as if you go over milage have car damage etc.
