Anyone had a flu that lasted longer than a week? I woke up with a cough last Thursday and around 3pm out of nowhere that day I got a 104 fever. That lasted for 3 days. Monday I felt much better. Tuesday the diarrhea and vomiting started. I mean I was in the bathroom every 10 minutes the entire day. Wasn't able to keep down water. I ended up passing out from dehydration at 6pm Tuesday. My husband called 911 and I went to the hospital for a bag of fluids and got sent home with some Zofran. Yesterday I felt a "little" better. No puking but some diarrhea. No fever but still have these body aches. Today is the same as yesterday. I've literally never had the flu longer than a couple of days. Could this be something other than the flu? I loathhh going to the doctor for myself so I'm definitely going to wait it out a couple more days. Just wondering if this sounds like more than the flu?

Actual influenza doesn't normally come with vomiting and diarrhea so my guess would be you have something different. The first could've very well been the flu and then since your immune system was weakened, you caught something else. Since you've been sick for a week plus the vomiting and diarrhea, you'll definitely feel weak and blah until you can get more fluid and nutrients back into your system. Just try and focus on getting/keeping fluids in your system, Gatorade as well as water. Hopefully you're at the end of it!

Did they test you for the flu? That sounds horrible. The flu can last longer than a week though, in some cases. Hope you’re better soon!

It took me a little over a week to get over this flu. This year was worse than I have ever had it. Close to 10 days.

When my family had it over Christmas break, it lasted a good 10-12 days. And 8 of those days I was barely able to even walk, lost 10 lbs. my husband told me daily to go to the hospital bc when I did walk, I couldn’t even stand up straight it was so so awful. Hang in there!

Sounds like an intestinal virus not influenza. There are so many viruses going around now. People getting stomach virus, influenza and eventually pneumonia. Walking pneumonia is scary because one can develop sepsis and that is fatal. So if anyone is going through an illness that replicates a cold or flu, go get checked. These new strains are quirky.

I would call your doctor and talk to the nurse in the office. They always have the best advice. Feel better and best wishes

Did you try getting a liquid I. V? It definitely helped me out.

You can get piggyback viruses too (one right after the other). Take care of yourself. You can easily end up with pneumonia, like I did. I was sick for three ish weeks and lost 17 pounds. It took me another two weeks to get back to working out without having to use an inhaler.

My son is on day 12. Luckily, he was prescribed Tamiflu one week into it. He’s progressively feeling better. Hope you’re better soon.

@mordacious I thought tamiflu is only given 24-48 after fever begins

@carabao38 no clue. He started taking it on the 7th day, and it definitely helped.

We have had this flu crap in my house for what seems like FOREVER! My 20 year old had it. Then I got the worst of it for 2 weeks. Then my husband got it. Then my 17 year old did. He had it for 10 days. Was better for 7 days and is sick again. He's now going on day #14. His SECOND round of Flu turned into a sinus infection and ear infection in both his ears. I have lysol wiped every inch of my house, opened windows, I've done everything. I can't win.

Yes- doctor said we went straight from one strand into the other strand. Our doctor told me they are seeing lots of cases of back to back viruses. Feel better soon.

My daughter was out with it for 2 weeks. It was horrible. My son was out a week and a half. I did have them under a doctors care just because it was so brutal and they are little but we just managed symptoms. I do recommend just getting checked out to make sure nothing else is secondary to the flu.
