No. They live here too. Saw one hunting some geese on river and black today.

@baldridge9 I saw that one too this morning!
by (2.2k points)
@patmore I thought he/she looked so beautiful and majestic!

@baldridge9 oh you could send a memo to yours to come get the geese out of my backyard down the road at Black & Ridge. Would rather have coyotes walking thru my yard at night than these noise boxes that make my dogs bark all the time

@unprintable I'll let him know to snack out your way

Lol. I know my question sounds silly, but I wasn’t sure. They were literally by my back porch and I have 3 littles
by (500 points)
@floriculture They won’t bother you. Unless it was constantly below zero, blizzards and they couldn’t find any food. they won’t bother your kids or pets.
by (1.1k points)
Yes most definitely they'll go after animals smaller than them
by (500 points)
Just make sure you watch and have your pets on a leash.

Dont let ur little out, besides that let them be and live their life

Three went after my dog this morning at 5 a. m., 127th and Vandyke. They live here too, leave them be- its mating season and they are hungry for food and lovin!
by (2.7k points)
Yikes! What did you end up doing?
by (5.5k points)
@rinaldo my little 15pounder scared them off! My husband and camera caught it all. We have no idea how she didnt get hurt, but are very happy she didnt!
by (2.7k points)
Phew! I’m always so worried about our maltipoo. She’s a little snack.
by (5.5k points)
@rinaldo mine is a snack too, but while one stood, another slunk closer and the 3rd came charging and pupper charged right back! Little lucky toughy! We saw them when we got her in and they stood looking at each other like "did that little one just win? "
by (5.5k points)
@rinaldo heres a grainy pic. my dog is red, the coyote is to the right

Use common sense. Don’t let pets out on their own and if you’re concerned, carry pepper spray. They do not become aggressive unless some moron is putting food out for them. In the winter they will come into residential areas because food is more scarce. It’s marking and mating season right now, so again, use common sense and don’t leave pets or small children outside alone. I also do a bald eagle in the field on 127th and Van Dyke recently. Nature is a beautiful thing, and they have the right to try to live on what little we’ve left them with.

No because this was their home first. We just invade ther space. So just be aware of your surroundings with your animals and children.

Some of you ladies are MEAN. And you wonder why bullying is such a problem. You don’t know why she asked that? What if she’s brand new here and has never encountered one before? A simple no, just be watchful would have sufficed. Christ on a bike. To answer your question respectfully Rachel, no you don’t need to call anyone. Just be watchful of your kiddos and pets!

@savagism I am too!
by (650 points)
@contractile87881 I've noticed too. I rarely comment. It's not worth it!
by (1k points)
@contractile87881 that makes me so sad. I don’t either but if I see comments, I’ll say something even if the poster didn’t ask for any defending. It’s not hard to be kind or scroll past if someone is tempted with a negative response. It’s like people get pleasure from putting others down and it’s gross
by (1k points)
@savagism makes me sad. This is supposed to be moms building moms but instead moms against moms and we are literally all fighting the same battles of the every day momma fight. Sheesh.

Coyotes are in heat right now so just keep the little dogs and small kiddos in after dark. Otherwise nothing we can do

Ghostbusters. (sorry, couldn't resist) Coyotes were here long before us suburbanites. They are very adept at learning how to live among humans. Keep your little pets inside, and watch them carefully when they go outside. Other than that, I think it's pretty cool to hear a coyote howling at night. Treat them kindly, please.

I was so gonna do this lmao! Also couldn't resist! I love coyotes <3 I miss feeding them.

I strongly encourage anyone worried about coyotes goes to Big Wolf Ranch in Lockport on one of their open house days and learns about why we don't need to fear them, and how they actually help the ecosystem!

March is mating season for coyotes. Males are more aggressive as a result. So definitely use caution with small pets

Lol. I am a city girl living on farm land here in Plainfield. Not hurt by anyone’s comments. Just asking out of ignorance. Thanks for all the thoughts.
by (250 points)
@floriculture city girl too, it was a good question and made sense . First time I encountered a coyote I was shocked! Now I’m more familiar and there’s a lot of helpful info here. Welcome to the suburbs!

The Will & Dupage county forest preserve websites have helpful info & tips. Im rushing out the door so dont have time to grab the links. But they are great resources for most wildlife questions.

@floriculture not ignorance at all! Legit question!

When I first moved here I was surprised to see them in my backyard, I called animal control and they told me coyotes don’t like loud noises and to buy an air horn to scare them off if they get too close.

We have an air horn we use when our dog needs to go out. It makes them look and scatter.
