What do you guys use as a substrate for your swing sets? My husband and I bought one that we are going to put together this spring, but can't decide what substrate we should use. I REALLY want the squishy rubber playground flooring type but not sure how difficult that would be to put in as far as having perfectly level ground, and all that. Plus hubs doesn't think it would hold up to the weed whacker. We(*I*) want long lasting durability, with little maintenance. I would like to stay away from regular mulch because one of our dogs LOVES eating sticks and I'd rather not give her a foreign body buffet. Rubber mulch is 100% out for the same reason but has more severity if ingested.

We were so torn on this when we put up our swing set so we decided to do nothing  we just ended up keeping the grass under it and I have no regrets, the kids have fallen off and been fine and aren't dirty messes everytime they come in and the dogs didn't get any new temptations. My husband says mowing under isn't as bad as he expected ‍♀️

Just grass. We’ve had ours for years and there’s no wear under it. It’s not like at a playground where there are hundreds of kids using it.

We are looking to add mulch and an edge to ours. As the grass under it has worn and the little house underneath doesn’t get sun so the grass/mud is a hot mess! I keep searching but haven’t found a solution yet.

Id say go old school like when we were kids. Just grass. We survived!
