Thinking of getting 2 stick up cams (battery) heard so many bad things but quite a lot are happy with ring products! My internet is fibre optic, but I do get problems with it being slow at times, should I still go for ring or are all wireless cams gonna be the same regardless of make?

If you already have network issues, any product you may purchase will have issues. Try to fix your network first (which is the culprint for most of the problems reported here).

@avaunt I’ve just got a signal booster so I’m hoping it will help, haven’t seen much difference really! Thanks

@eckman call Ring support and ask about the eero mesh network offer.

@exercitation2948 I will, thank you

The internet into the house doesn't come into play, it's your Wi-Fi network that you have to worry about, if you don't have adequate coverage it won't matter which products you use.

The new Stick up cams kinda stink. The second gen were better.

@necolenecro87 oh really!

Yes, as far as the motion zones go on the power, and I believe it had a better viewing angle as well for the lens. There’s a reason why the new generation was a lot cheaper.

@necolenecro87 thanks for that

No the spotlight cams are still decent, I’d prefer one of those vs the stickup. Viewing angles are better, LED lighting, and you can use two batteries.

@necolenecro87 I was looking at the spotlight originally and the floodlight but then it’s the price and I want two, do they both have to be wired do u know?
by (3.5k points)
There’s a battery option for the spotlight cam I own one, with a solar panel connected.

If you can though, get a wired system. The wired cameras are so much better than the battery operated ones.

@necolenecro87 think I’ve gone off battery completely I can’t have all those problems I’m gonna have to reconsider the cameras if I’m going to wire them

The battery ones aren’t bad. I have 5 total cameras. 2 are wired ( Spotlight Cam and Stick up Gen 2 ). Then 3 battery (2 Doorbell and Spotlight Cam ). I don’t have any problems with the battery connection wise. It’s just performance wise the electric is a little better. Also any activated motion lasts for a minute instead of 30 seconds. I’d say realistically where you live I only get about 1-2 months before I need to swap and replace the batteries. Weather, amount of motion and all of that causes that. I also have a pretty expensive WiFi setup and 500 meg connection, that’s also very important because I’d say 95% of people with connection issues are their own WiFi causing the problem.

@necolenecro87 i think I would be better off with wired camera, I’d be so mad if I put battery ones up and then had all the problems people complain about lol thank u

I have 4 Stick Up Cam Battery cameras and they are the worst purchase I have ever made. I would NEVER have purchased them if I could have tried them out first. Buy a wired camera system, and forget Ring’s poorly designed wireless devices.

@judaica hmmm I don’t want to regret it I’ve been debating ring for weeks I like the idea of no wires
by (260 points)
@warmhearted so if I buy ring wired products what do I have to do get an electrician?
by (370 points)
@eckman I felt the same. I just wanted to be able to mount them and have them work. The problem is, they use very low quality wireless chips in the cameras and the wireless performance is horrible. I can sit right next to the cameras and stream 1080p videos on my phone all day long. However, the Ring cameras stutter constantly trying to view a 480p live view. If I ever had to rely in the cameras to identify a criminal, it would never happen. Definitely take the time and go wired.

The weak spot in many home wireless systems is a poor router. Careful about drinking the mesh kool-aid

The stick up battery cams are junk. I had 3 of them and they would never work consistently. I returned them. I have 2 battery spotlight cams and 2 indoor plug in cams and they work perfectly.

I just bought a stick up cam with solar panel a week ago. Not mad at it. I have exceptional speed. My only complaint was coverage of motion zone. Ring claims it still covers 30 feet beyond the blue motion zone. It does not. I placed it high on my pergola pole. (Excuse the mess its winter). But dropping the camera down a little changed everything. (Posting updated photo in replies)

@endoplasm633 I see the difference, thank you
by (2.2k points)
Yeah before tilting it up to garage, i lost my side steps to to the left. And would just catch a forehead walking across to the door. Dropping it down gives me all the coverage I needed.
by (260 points)
@endoplasm633 so the solar panel means no batteries to charge right?
by (2.2k points)
@eckman nope. I put it on top of the pergola. You charge the battery to start, which takes most the day. Then it will charge your battery on sunny days, then becomes your power source basically until night. So I should never have to charge the battery.

@endoplasm633 sounds great

@eckman its worth a try. Pretty simple set up. If it doesn't work out, take them back.
