I'm beyond frustrated.  The settings for linked devices in the app are not working properly.I'm beyond frustrated. The settings for linked devices in the app are not working properly. Every time I go into the app, then to my pathlights and linked devices the settings are different and NOT what I saved. I've got 2 doorbells and 4 pathlights. I try to change the settings to what they SHOULD be and it won't save just gives me the option to discard changes or retry. I don't even know what to do at this point. I'm not getting notifications or recording that I should be and I'm getting them for the wrong things. Everything was working so well until this last week. What changed. Why is it so difficult to get the right settings and linked devices and for the settings to STICK?

I know what you should do, contact Ring support. They'll probably fix it for you ;)

@gerontocracy They were no help, that's why I'm here asking if anyone else had this happen?

Try removing the app and re add app on your phone see if that helps

@georgiannegeorgic Tried that with support. Still have the issue. I'm assuming it's an app issue at this point.

@jacqualinejacquard do you have an iOS device in the house? Try using ring app on that and change the settings I have seen this work before

@georgiannegeorgic no ios devices

@jacqualinejacquard bummer well even if you tried it on a friends or family’s phone and change settings and delete app. Good luck to you

@georgiannegeorgic I appreciate the help, but I don't think I know anyone with an iPhone or iPad. I'll have to ask around if worse comes to worse.

Reinstall the app and reboot your router.

Once you set the links, do you hit the save button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen?
by (410 points)
@spann yes

1) Log out of the app and log back in; if that does not work, 2) remove app and reinstall; if that does not work 3) reboot your wifi router AND modem.

And then if I go to another light to change its settings it shows me the settings I had for the last one I saved and if I change them, it will just say try again or discard changes. I had to force close the app and clear the cache every time I made a change and even then the settings won't stick it just seems to do what it wants. I don't have a complicated setup I have 1 doorbell on my front door and 3 pathlights for the driveway. I want those connected and I want a recording of my front door when light 1 detects motion. The doorbell on the back patio is only connected to 1 Pathlight and when that light detects motion I want a video from the back doorbell. This all stopped working when the app was updated with some new features. And now I'm getting the wrong device recording at various times.

@spann I've done all of those things when I talked to support. Still the issue persists. Coming here was my literal last resorts since support was no help with the app issue. They basically said 'we will forward this on to our app team'.

You may also want to shut down your phone (all the way off), and restart it. It sounds like a software flotsam and jetsam issue.

@spann I've done that too.

Delete the devices from your account and reconnect?

I've got a pixel 3 with the latest software patch as of 4/5 running Android 10. It's not like this is an old phone or old software. I saw in the reviews on the app page that some others were having similar issues. I'll just have to wait for an app update it seems.

I was able to send a screen video to support via email showing what exactly I'm doing, hitting save, and doing the same for the other devices and it shows clearly that the app isn't retaining the settings after save. I'm hoping that will help the app dev team. I've spent all day messing with this and I think I'm tapped out. Lol
