Looking for a little help in the WiFi area. Is a mesh system a good way to go? I’ve always dealt with routers and extenders just sick of the dead zones. Does anyone recommend a certain mesh system ?

I use EERO. but be warned. you must have beacons very near to your doorbells or cameras to connect to. because as EERO suggests, it doesn't always connect to the nearest beacon if you've only got one or two in your home. After purchasing a couple more beacons, I have absolutely no problems at all.

I use Google mesh Chris, with 4 modules. Self healing and easy to manage. I have 8 ring devices on 1/4 acre property and it covers the whole yard

@highstrung I love Google Mesh! No problems with 3K sqft., 12 cameras, alarm base station with 13 contact sensors, and 21 smartlighting devices w/ bridge. My furthest camera is mounted on the back fence while the router is in the garage on the front of the house. Thanks to the Mesh, it has no problems reaching.

Orbi for speed, coverage and configurability

Orbi here. I particularly like their outdoor satellite for cameras as it puts the connection point outside of the home with less to interfere with the signal.

Google Nest is great

TPLink Deco M5 here (M9 is even better) have three nodes one near each of my two cameras that are both the secondary nodes. RSSI is great and camera feed with the regular ring app in 2-3 seconds usually

Google is good, but if the Google server computers go down, so will your router. They are tied together. Go with Netgear Orbi and get the RBK50 router and satellites. Really fast, stable and you can configure it any way you want.

I’m running Eero. Zero complaints and works great with my ring stuff. Like someone else suggested, you might have to get a few separate units in various spots of the house depending on layout.

Orbi RBK50 is what we have for 3000 sq ft and tons of wireless devices.

Be cautious. Some routers have limitations on the number of connections - mostly 25. You can connect more than 25 to it, but devices will be slow to respond. I bought a TP-LINK mesh system - main unit and 2 satellites. You can connect up to about 100 devices. Works great.

Mesh and Repeaters are about the same idea. the principal is that if a wired connection goes down the AP will "mesh" repeat the nearest signal / AP it is meshed to. I rather have a wired Access points, with Mesh as a back up.

Netgear ORBI here. Works great.

250 devices on ORBI. Highly doubt most people would have more devices than that.

I got the Eero Pro 3-pack. It’s $500 but I have a large 4 story house and detached garage. Setup was super easy. Except the battery devices wouldn’t connect. Had to attach my old slower Wi-Fi unit to one Eero to get my spotlight cam to install.

For those with Orbi, does your Live View work with battery operated devices like the Ring 2? I’ve tried the Orbi system and neither of my doorbells worked with Live View.

@corr7 I have Orib set up as an access point. I turned off WiFi from my Xfinity Router. I generally don't have issues with Live View.

Great coverage from Google mesh 200 yards any direction from my house - I used the 3 pack that I got at Costco plus a Ring Chime 2 with nightlight!

Any if these work with Verizon Fios ?
by (120 points)
@silverman Fios has there own mesh system now. It just came out within the last 2 months or so. I have it here and have no complaints. I am a very very heavy WiFi /device user. I have 14 cameras at this location alone then an un-godly amount of other tech and devices using WiFi. I had orbi before and had nothing but constant trouble and ripped them out within 30 days. Went back to fios router with 6 extenders thruout house and then switched to there mesh system when it was released.

@silverman this is what the base station and the satellites look like.
by (120 points)
@silverman this was right now with 58 active devices connected at the moment.

@silverman don’t know the model numbers but google WiFi 6 tri band fios router.

@bolshevik could you notice the difference ? The price for just the base is 299 , then the node is 199

I have the google mesh system and I’m not having good luck. It seems like no matter what the cameras want to only connect to the main station even tho the “satellite” ones are within 10-15 feet of them
