Because I was looking at Bitdefender box but it doesn’t cover mesh systems . And I’ve got antivirus already just looking for an add on like defender box and I’m in the UK Thank you

Orbi has it built in.

@uela ye I’m looking more of an add on that what’s included with mesh . As an extra extra layer . If that makes sense ?

@uela because people have security camera and alarm system as a back up . That’s what I’m trying to do . Have antivirus and another platform as a backup

So having it built into the router AND being able to install it on each device sounds like a back up.

@uela ye I don’t always trust software that we download of computers because of past experiences that’s why I like having a box that helps before it gets to the mesh system . If you know what I meen ? I’m just trying to add an extra layer on top because of how easy it is to hack people these days I’m just adding that little bit more layer just to help prevent 1 extra hacker because I know you won’t stop every hacker but 1 hacker less is better

What are you trying to accomplish? Intrusion protection? Parental controls? Blocking content?

@primogeniture9 intrusion protection . I want to prevent people hacking into my internet and devices . But people don’t understand that if you just have antivirus for one device it doesn’t protect other devices . but mesh does help but it’s only one layer of protection for my alarm system or security camers where as if I could of used Bitdefender box with mesh it would be an extra layer of protection on my devices . Because I know like eero and orbi and that has protection built in but it’s just one layer of protection . To me it’s just another layer I know it won’t stop every hacker in the world but it’s will help stop an extra person from hacking into my house . I’m not bothered about parental controls because I have that already and blocking content I have that aswell . Some people might think I’m going over the top but it’s like people buying a mesh system to get that little bit more speed out . To some people that is a bit extreme when they don’t need little bit extra speed .

Unless the Mesh system has IPS built in, mesh itself won't help against a virus nor malware. From what I see, people buy a mesh system due to dead spots within the home and they find it easier to install a mesh system as you don't need to run ethernet cables. A mesh will not provide more speed; the wireless device is probably closer to the mesh device, so it seems faster due to a stronger signal or the mesh device has better antennas than the base all in one wireless router, so yes, faster wireless speed, but not overall internet throughput. I prefer wired access points and have two inside and one outside in the backyard. A good router should have IPS built in, so you should start there; I use Ubiquiti products and my UDM-Pro has IPS and its enabled. Cameras and IoT should always be up to date with firmware, default passwords changed (a plus if you can rename the default admin account) and on a seperate VLAN that blocks traffic into your main network. In my case, my hardwired cameras and IoT are on separate VLANs than my main network, so if those devices are compromised, my computers are protected. I have separate SSIDs for guests and wireless IoTs and those are also on separate VLANs than the main network.

@primogeniture9 I’ve got ports all around the house but they don’t work when I moved in so going to get them sorted soon  and then buy some of the products bit by bit  thank you

I use Engenius APs and Datto APs depending on client. but Mesh is only used when the ethernet wiring to the AP goes dead or cut. but most manufacturers have encryption for their own propitiatory wireless solutions with security encryption per network. . Bit Defender has nothing to do with your wireless solution, but for your endpoints.

I use Google Wifi. Only one of the units has a cat 5 hooked to it. All of the others connect to that unit via a private wifi network that only they belong to. Together they project a wifi network that you name. I have no dead spots in my house and all of my Ring cameras work without issue.
