It won’t work at night through a window and it won’t detect motion. I’ve just got the battery ring outdoor stick up cam for £89 and screwed it to an outside 1st floor window ledge.

They work for me, you have to turn off the infared because it will reflect off the window at night. Mine pick up motion with no problem. ‍♂️

@edelmiraedelson maybe that’s where I went wrong then.

@beluga877 in the Ring instructions for the indoorcam they tell you if you're using it through a window to turn it off so it won't reflect off the glass. I figured if they are putting this in the instructions then it was also meant to be used that way too. You can get 5 indoor cams for the price of 1 outdoor cam.

@edelmiraedelson I was using the outdoor cam through the window to begin with because I didn’t want to have it outside if I could help it. But now it is outside it’s much better.

They record as well as others but won’t detect motion, if that’s what you mean.

@deceitful2 Ours detect motion.

@computation4983 will not do on PIR at night and limited during day and will have less than optimal on advanced motion detection.

Mine detects motion fine day and night through double glazes windows.

If you want to look outside why not get a camera for outside?
by (1.2k points)
@pyxidium46431 we don’t want to drill holes in the bricks and run power.
by (2.6k points)
@mescaline you can get battery powered ones.

@pyxidium46431 yes battery power ones with s solar panel. You can always put a pole up on the side or corner of the house if you don't want to attach to house. But you can't always have your cake and eat ut to

Most likely during the day it might be ok, not sure about the motion part but at night I’d imagine the reflections will wash out the picture

I use them and they work for me. You have to turn off the night vision because the infrared will reflect off the glass at night and you won’t see anything.

Also depending on the time of day you will get some reflection from the glass but it goes away with the movement of the sun.

But you can get 5 indoor cams for the price of 1 outdoor one. It made sense to me. I have one in each window in my house.

@edelmiraedelson you are smart. Does it pick up motion
by (1.3k points)
@fourpenny like all cams you can set the motion sensitivity. They actually picked up too much motion. I had the notifications on and my phone was going off every min. They do just fine. Thanks!

Also if it’s really dark outside at night you won’t see anything unless you have an outside light source.

Go to Wasserstein. They have all kinds of devices like gutter attachments.

It’s ok during the day and also detect motion and record but night time is the problem
by (1.3k points)
@duprey need to turn off the infrared to see at night. When you turn it off you won’t get reflection off the glass. I would also cover the blue light with tape too.

@duprey turn IR off

I use one for my garden and its next to the window fine during the day I have a sensor light I tested it by walking out I triggered the light the camera recorded and recording was great crystal clear so if someone was in my garden it would work fine ie get notification ect so works for me

My RING INDOOR Cam works great through the window - as others have said switch ir off - place it as close to the window as you can to prevent sun glare reflections. Motion sensing works perfectly well through the glass (double glazed units) and picks up people walking up my drive and records them perfectly. The streetlighting is enough of an illumination for them to see at night. My £20 Wyze/Neos Cams also work perfectly at night through window and also detect motion just fine.
