Hi SEOs, I have a question about payment. So if you are working as a freelancer, what are those payments option that you prefer. I have a potential real estate agent client who lists the following in the job description: "This is a project-based, freelance position; compensation and bonuses will be based ONLY off your lead generation. " I talked to the client today and he mentioned I only get paid per lead to the website (if someone fills up the form on the website). We have not talked about any details yet but we will have another meeting later this week. My concern is: Is the payment reasonable? And usually, it will take months to improve ranking and get traffic, so I could get no $ for the first few months.

Unless you can generate a lot of leads it won't be worth your time but the experience may be good for you. Lead gen is not easy. You really want a powerful, popular Website.

Avoid dude. You could put in months of grind, the site never rank and you won't earn a penny.

Walk away. You should set your own rates and conditions. You're the consultant.

Pass bro. don’t let them dictate you. If you don’t value your own time- nobody else ever will

Fuck that. You'll find yourself having one of two discussions - 1. We're not getting any leads - we're not paying you. 2. The leads were getting are shit - we're not paying you. Leg it dude. Big time

Unless you have full creative control over the website, walk, no, run away. You can drive traffic to a site all day long but if it’s designed poorly and has bad copywriting you’ll never convert.

I'm going to be the odd one out only because I can see that getting big if they also agree to PPC spend. I would counter with that. SEO only hell no.

Hell no PPC. I don't even think the client has the money for ads

If their going to pay per lead I would only be prepared to build up properties that you retain ownership of. Otherwise they will fire you before you make any real money and all your work will be wasted if you own the properties you atleast have some power

Yep I agree here. If you build a lead gen property that you can keep selling leads to other bidders then it could be possible to work on pay per lead. No way if they own it can they dictate those terms.

If ppc I might go with being paid for the leads but they need to cover both ad spend and management fees. Do you think they'll be up for it.

That is a real question. Doubt it

Thanks for answering my question, my fellows. I am going to see this client and will talk about my terms (with what you suggested above). I will be optimistic-- I will use this as an opportunity to get my hands dirty. In the meantime, I will ask for a management fee just to cover some of my time. I will keep you ALL posted.
