New 3D Augmented image links right in the search results for ecomm sites. I wonder what something like this will do for both CTR and conversion rates?

I suggest it will improve CTR if the images we upload on our ecomm sites are good enough! The point is, google showing these images isn't going to satisfy the intent of the user which is buying. So unless someone is just an SEO trying to look at SERPs for fun, the rest of the buyers will visit that specifc page. So if the image is good enough and you are ranking high too, increased CTR and conversion rates in ecommerce ;-)

This is going to be the future. I talk about this with a friend a lot. Things are facts things are theoretical, but in the world of tech, it's not wise to think this 2-D Medium would be here in 20 years as prominently as it is now.

It could decrease CTR. With G directing a trend toward zero-click searches, CTR would seem to lose some of its value as a ranking signal, which in turn can would mean lower interest in CTR, with a higher interest in acquisitions, It could lower CTR by letting people browse the item on the search page, with only the more interested buyers clicking through. And those buyers have other options. E-commerce marketers may discover themselves in the same uncomfortable place into which G corralled news publishers - it uses your content to drive interest in searches then diverts your traffic to their advertisers instead of to your publication and its advertisers. Your 3D purse in search results may eventually appear below 3 other 3D purses -- all of which paid for a higher spot on the page. Your job as an organic ecommerce agent, as far as the search engine is concerned, is to be the "also ran" candidate.

I loved that at the Google I/O conference. Great to see that out of beta
