There is no risk as the virus only survives a few hours on surfaces
by (450 points)
@fritillary dont think hes worried about getting the virus. Just the inability to get equipment due to the factory shut downs
by (3.8k points)
@fritillary this version survives 5 days on surfaces.
by (1.2k points)
@ens9525 up to 48 hours at room temp on ideal surfaces. per the CDC anyways.
by (1.4k points)
@ens9525 even if that was likely to be true it will be under optimal conditions & shipping containers temperature will vary. Wipe everything down if it bothers you & WASH your hands. Hope that all the assembly / factory workers & their families stay healthy & that we & our need for a camera so that we can watch the dog sleep on his back from home.

Plus most of the stuff unless it just came out in the last day will already be sitting in a center here.

This is not a real issue, the virus is only spread by humans not equipment

This isn't some super bug that can live outside the host for days/weeks. It'll be ok lol.

@cuccuckold Most shipment from China goes by sea freight so 48 hrs is less than half of the journey’s time. Delays may come more from a knee jerk reaction from US Customs and holding package in quarantine.
by (1.2k points)
@cuccuckold on an ideal surface at room temp, up to 48 hours. Definitely won't be a factor for shipping packages.

It’s still new year’s holidays going on in China right now. I’m waiting for a automobile headend to be shipped. They don’t except to be back to work until February 5th.

Many facilities are extending that to the 10th now. I don't blame them. We have schools here shutting down because of flu outbreaks. It is all about trying to slow the local spread.

Since people can't grasp this. The issue is not a worry about the virus being on packages when they get here. The issue is the workers in the shipping facility spreading amongst themselves. But I get it. You want to have your product now. Screw their health concerns.
by (740 points)
@cuccuckold so you are trying to save those poor workers from the job that feeds their family?
by (1.6k points)
Wow. Another dense one. Good riddance.
by (1.6k points)
I would like them to not get sick and possibly, I don't know. DIE. But hey, I have the flu right now. Maybe I should just keep going to work.

It would be pretty cool if we could not spread falsehoods and fear.

Since the electronics manufacturing is done in Schenzen not Wuhan I really don't see an issue with shipping from China. The two cities are hundreds of miles apart.

China has extended the new year shutdown until 10 of February. Most companies already anticipated a buffer stock due to Chinese new year. Most don't see a problem yet but are monitoring the issue. Don't forget that a lot of Chinese companies also have factories in Vietnam, Thailand etc. Its not always in China.

@palmer142 only a few cities are locked down. Talk to people there everyday business as normal no delays after feb 10th like normal. Shenzen and the main places things are made and shipped from are not under lock down.

Total bullshit, I have 2 40ft containers coming feb 10th only a few cities are under lock down and they aren't the ones shit gets shipped out of. I talk to my china vendors every day. It's fine everything is expected to be fine. They even sent me updated photos of the shipping container being put together even though they are holiday they are sneaking and getting some stuff ready.

@meshuga when u consider the person name their probably an idian seller lol
by (960 points)
@meshuga China stock index down 9% tonight, loads of panic selling. Might be a good time to buy if you’re familiar with the companies and convinced it’s hype (I don’t really mess with China so just sideline observation).
