DIY Humidity Sensors I would like to add humidity sensors to my inline bathroom extractor fan. Can anyone recommend a sensor/system (either smart or simply wired)?

I had thought of replacing the main switch with a smart switch and linking it to a smart things wireless humidity sensor within the room. But then I thought that this might be over-complicating the matter so would like some advice/guidance

@elfont I think that's your best bet. I've done the same and works for me perfectly.

@southwestwards thanks for the response, which brand/model smart switch/sensors did you use?

JBYCDMYS. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Humidity in your bathroom is going to vary greatly where the rest of the house won’t. Run the fan when you shower in the summer. But if you have a central hvac system, let it do it’s job. In the winter that humidity it’ll distribute would be welcome.

If you do something, I’d make sure to implement a max run time or something. Remember, a 200 CFM vent fan will exchange all the air out of an average size house in less than half an hour. Making your HVAC way less efficient.

They already have a non-connected combo humidity & bathroom fan switch available. it does not connect back to a hub, it keeps all the logic at the switch

Spoiler alert: you don’t need a hub or complicated HA setup. Just replace your switch with a Humidity Sensor Switch. I have one and it works well.
