Can I use an older motherboard with an amd 6700 to build my own hub? I started looking into home automation a couple months ago. Well it started as a "magicmirror" for my daughters. but now I'm hooked. Yes I'm a noob, the very definition of noob. But I am blown away by the possibilities. The more I learn the further down the rabbit hole I go.

It is a bit of a curve but after a bit, it gets easier. In saying that, they've made it simpler to implement different addons via the GUI. I've been playing with it for about 2 years and now I have 8 smart bulbs, 5 Google devices, 5 cameras and about 6 motion and door sensors. I'm addicted now lol

HomeAssistant would be a perfect fit, it's a deep dark rabbit hole though, beware!

If you have/build a PC and a Z-wave/Zigbee dongle; you are good to go. The MoBo and processor are fine.

Domoticz is very simple to start with but also very powerful. Home Assistant seems to be the leader of the pack, but much more complicated to get started with.
