Advice needed please: Spent most of the even listing my smart things and other house hold devices Mac address and consolodating them into an excel spreadsheet grouping them so i can allocate IP address within the router to each device and each group has is own range ( lights 192. 168. 1. 70-90 etc) however even though i had a pretty solid router TP-Link Archer vr400 it has a max reservation table of 32. Does anyone know of a decent VDSL Uk based router with a higher table count?

I use pfsense - free download. It will need a small computer to run on. Ideal if you have any virtualisation already. You could use it solely for DHCP workout routing

Do you have home assist running on a raspberry pi? You could add dhcp to that

@entertainment you know this is the bizzare thing I've been an OT tech for 15 years and I've never touched raspberry pi I always said I didn't need it them I got to the point of realising how addictive it could be and then costly but I may need to look into it the time has finally come !

Is there a particular version I should go for ?
by (400 points)
@chop5066 yeah just go for the latest faster one. It has a relatively high USB c power requirement so buy the pi power adaptor. You will also need the mini hdmi to hdmi to play with it before it goes headless. They really are great. I have one for homeassistant unifi wireless controller pi hole looking at adding node red for more automation

@entertainment is this the sort of thing I should be buying from Amazon so as to get genuine ?

Get a raspberry pi and have it do the dhcp.

Why not put static ips on those that support it, and use the dhcp table for those that dont ?

Just let them sort themselves . what the point

@brewis79 because I'm having issues with the network not assigning IP properly and then the system fails over and have to reset wifi

What makes you think it has a 32 limit. The manual shows the factory default is 100 devices and can be set to the whole subnet. Most modern routers default to 50 or 100 devices but can also be changed in the GUI.

@entertainment Laren because I've got 32 and when I try to add 33 I get an error which when googled reveals its the limit
