Looking for a lighting solution for those with older homes where many light don't have a neutral wire. Is there a solution where I can use a smart switch and a smart bulb that are "paired" somehow? Ideally, the switch would include a motion sensor.

There are switches available now that do not require a neutral wire. You just have to look for them. They use a super capacitor to keep the switch going.

@thermoluminescence1 Lutron Caseta. Work great with dimmable LEDs throughout my house.

Why would you want a smart bulb in this situation? I installed Lutron Caseta switches throughout my home (no neutrals required). Love them. Especially with the "Pico" remotes which you can put anywhere (even on the wall and make them appear to be a wall switch - they just mirror a real switch and have a 10 year battery)

Here is a pic of the pico remote. It's held onto the wall with 3M Command Strips! Looks like a regular switch but there is nothing behind it. It 'mirrors' a wired Lutron Caseta switch that just happens to be in an inconvenient location. Lutron also works with almost all smart home hubs / automation systems. Alexa, Google Home, Homekit, SmartThings, etc.

@thermoluminescence1 I don't see the aversion to hubs in general, but OK. Worth every penny. You say "new hub". if you have a zwave compatible hub, Innovelli now makes no-neutral zwave dimmer switches.

@thermoluminescence1 The Lutron hub is not a big deal. Pretty much plug and play and Lutron is definitely the best solution. They are the giant in the industry with mature products. Nobody I know has ever regretted buying Lutron. I'm actually going to get the V2 hub (only because there's some elegant integration that I want to do with my Hubitat hub. ) I'll sell you my gen 1 Lutron hub cheap if you want.

What @warren5072 said. Lutron is Very reliable and the hub actually gives the switches their own logic that's built into the lutron app ( vacation scene, geofencing) the hub is like 2 inches square. It's tiny. And works extremely well. Take advice from a pro, you WILL NOT regret caseta

You technically don't need the lutron hub if you don't want to control with an app/voice assistant. You can pair pico remotes directly to an in wall Caseta switch

My light switches were wired up with no neutrals in my house I bought. I now use inovelli dimmer switches that don't require any neutral. They have smart bulbs that work great with the switches also. They often have a sale on switches and bulbs combo's.

Just wire the light straight from the old switch box, and use smart bulbs.

Inovelli awesome switch you can turn off relay and just control a smart bulb . no neutral required switches will need a load of 25 watts or you will need a bypass. I just saw @preshrunk recommended them above. Yes they often have switch bulb specials. Great ccommunity to ask qyestions
