What would be the simplest way to get an alert on my phone/watch when the fridge and freezer doors are left open for more than a couple of minutes? I’m deaf, so I can’t hear beeps, and the little kids have a habit of leaving it open. We have eve door sensors on the doors, but I don’t want to be alerted every single time the fridge or freezer is opened or closed.

I'm doing this with a SmartThings hub and a SmartThings multi-purpose sensor. If the sensor remains open for 5 minutes or more it will trigger an alert on my phone. I can have it flash lights anywhere also.

Do you have echos or smartthings? You can put a time delay in the alert. Sensors open > 2 minutes > alert phone.

@bigg61 you would need another hub as hue only controls lights. I use my echo to so my ring sensors can talk to my hue hub and lights.

@ahders not sure as I don’t have these. But seems like the easiest and cheapest way to do it would be to get an echo dot and set a routine with a compatible sensor. DOTs are cheap and with the Alexa app on your phone should work to give you a notification.

You could use a door sensor and then trigger lights to turn color based on position.

Wyze Sense will do this.

Our LG does it through its app.

I'm working on something that would or could fit-the-bill. It uses the Arduino D1 board which could monitor a number of doors or devices. When triggered it would do a number of things which include, sending an SMS message, Sending an email and actually phoning you as well. All programming would be done for you or you could download a script and load that into the board yourself. It's being designed for RV/Caravans to protect them whilst in storage (No power) or whilst the owners are exploring the holiday area. You would simply connect whatever sensors you want, Door contacts, Break beams, CCTV cameras etc. When a basic sensor is triggered, power is then supplied to all of the other kit.

Cool. try  for Alexa integration if needed

@vocalise I've got a couple of Pi3's but have also now got Alexa fully controlling an Arduino board too so no need for another module. e. g. "Saying 42549" would set 5 servo's position to each of the digits using relative mapping. Or "Look out of the window" would auto twist a CCTV camera to that direction . great fun with it at the mo.

This is not on your watch or phone, but it’s easy. Buy a wifi colour light bulb, install it in a obvious place, and setup so the colour will change to something special (like red) when your fridge door is open for a few minutes

If you have an automation controller of some kind, then door open sensor starts a timer, door shutting cancels the timer. Time up creates whatever kind of alert works to get your attention.

Try Sense. It alerts me when the door is open for more than 1 min.
