Damn good question so I just went and killed one of mine. It comes back in the off state

@supporter thanks. Will be using one to control a contactor, want to make sure I get the right one.

But still remembers where it was last time when you turn it back on.

@dandiprat I tried a dimmer but should be same with switch

I thought they remember the previous state regardless of on or off. I assume you tested both, but I had thought it was the exact same as a normal dumb switch remembering last state.

@slocum Yes, he’s wondering what state it’s in after a power outage which is off. I was wondering if it would remember last level it was at before power outage in which it does for a dimmer

@supporter right I knew they didn't turn on if they were off, but I thought they would turn on if they were left on

With that I need to get a normally open contactor so it doesn’t accidentally get turned on after a power outage.

With Insteon. It goes to last state. So I have programed my ISY994I to during certain hours if power loss (or forced restart of ISY) it shuts off all lights except certain ones. For example lets say you have allot of lights on at 6pm. Then you loose power to 3am. On power reatore you dont want all those lights coming back on.

@dandiprat What are you controlling?
by (4.4k points)
@supporter Hot water heater and water pump.

@unexpected No, they should all default to off. We call it fail-safe

@dandiprat You are “Enabling” the WH right? Not turning it on/off by temperature wirelessly
by (1.9k points)
@supporter Agree. But I know I wrote program for something to make sure. I have to check and repory back.

Yes. I just want a power shut off for water pump and hot water heater in cases of no use, but also emergency shut off

@dandiprat I guess what I’m asking is the WH is still controlled by a t-stat you’re just putting the switch in series with it right? You don’t want to control anything critical wirelessly

Yes. Water heater is controlled by thermostat. Just shutting off power when nobody is using the house.

Unless you like significantly increasing your chances of getting Legionella disease, you shouldn't let the temperature of your hot water frequently drop below 120 degrees F if it's stagnant.
