I’ve got an electrician coming within the next few weeks to change out some light fixtures, fix a few outlets, etc. I’ve considered seeing if they could go ahead and change out all of my light switches with smart switches. I’ve got roughly 70 throughout the house that could be changed out. What would be the most cost effective switch you would recommend as a bulk purchase?

Just because a light switch can be made smart, that doesn't mean you should make it smart. In a typical home, you really don't need them ALL to be smart. There is also little point in doing it until you have the sensors and intelligent control piece in place for each light as well. You may want some of them to change colour, some may only work as on/off, some might need to be dimmable.

Are they single pole, 3 ways, or a mix? Not sure if any have direct sales that you could reach out for bulk purchase.

@balzer a mix of both single and 3 way. probably more 3 way it seems like

@cistaceous3507 I like GE 3ways but I have seen a lot of people posting about inovelli switches. They are also a little cheaper. I think there was a post recently that someone posted on their Facebook page and they reached out and helped him get setup.

Might cost less to simply install Shellys.

@ern if he’s having an electrician to come change an outlet, please don’t recommend a truly DIY option. I agree they’re a great product but this sounds like an application where the OP doesn’t have the skill set to work with a Shelly.

I also though Shelly. Aside from setting up mqtt (which could be a bridge too far) are they that DIY? At least all switches could be left as normal (but would recommend neutral to each).

In my experience, most electricians wouldn't have a clue when it comes to installing/configuring Shellys. Most won't even know how to add a GE Enbrighten or Inovelli to the smart home system (they'd just be able to do the physical install).

Who the hell has 70 light switches? Then again I’m sure if I count all of mine I’m probably not far from 40-50

Zooz, Inovelli, GE - all good option. With 70+ devices, using Z-wave will help keep clutter off your 2. 4GHz wifi band.

Need to plan the whole thing out before just installing a bunch of dimmers. It’s a big investment and you can make a terrible mistake. If you want to chat give me a call Facebook. com/redcollc

Inovelli for 3 ways you can use old dumb switches and that saves 20 buck a switch
by (5.2k points)
I have mainly ge zwave switches. The newer inovelli wasn't released yet. Those seem superior. Both new ones don't need neutrals
