Working on kitchen updating.  Nothing major just paint and fixtures but I am doing some over cabinet rgb lighting.Working on kitchen updating. Nothing major just paint and fixtures but I am doing some over cabinet rgb lighting. What kind of route is everyone taking with under cabinet? Obviously many more options if I just connect to smart outlet but the current single light is hardwired with a switch on the light itself so I would prefer hardwired options.

My biggest advise is to make sure to go with a higher end quality light. Under cabinet lighting you typically want to use as a working light and these need to be nice and bright. The cheaper strips most people get work great for accent and mood lighting but aren't strong enough to help with cooking and cleaning under the cabinet.

@untidy Beatty absolutely! I personally just kind of assumed that but should have said so in the original post.

I went with sk6812 144/m strip. I am controlling it with wled (esp8266) It was a lot of work and not 100 done but looks great.

@perplexity9 WLED firmware for sure, spend some money on good sk6812. Don't skimp out on the LEDs, it's light you have to look at every day. I just out in some white LEDs under my cabinets and built a dimmer using ESPHome, and esp32 and some mosfets for pwm dimming. The LEDs were nearly 4x the cost of the cheapest white ones I've bought but it's worth it
