Literally all I have seen today is muppets complaining about Wink (admittedly 1 week notice is a bit rubbish for change to subscription) or the same muppets cranky about Wink hub then going over to complain on Hubitat posts that it’s price went up  ffs why do ppl think they can buy a Hub for $100 then expect a high level of service or continued development it’s just not a sustainable delivery model.

@antineutrino350 The ones whining to Hubitat about “price gouging” make me laugh too. Sorry, but plenty of people warned Wink users for years that this was going to happen and it’s inevitable that they’re going to close shop too. I mean, any other businessman would’ve shut them down already, but Will. i. am. a. loser won’t because of his ego.

Yeh it blew my mind them over there whinging at Hubitat haha fkn turnips. Maybe it was a bit cheeky the price going up maybe just coincidence. Either way the device is dirt cheap for what it is. While I understand hunting down good value items as well myself I think ppl have this idea that they are gonna automate their whole home for $500 or some nonsense like that.

It’s 5$ ya cheap fucks
by (460 points)
@cavanaugh why would you pay 5 bucks when you can have it free?
by (5.6k points)
$5 every month. In 12 months you could have just bought a SmartThings or Hubitat hub and pay no more. In 5 years, you could have purchased a whole server system. $5 is cheap until it isn't.

@heinrike6802 where are you getting wink for free?
by (460 points)
@cavanaugh not wink, hubitat or smartthings (talking about not having to pay a monthly subscription). I mean, why keep wink when you can go to a hub that requires no monthly subscription.
by (2.4k points)
@heinrike6802 oh hey, I have SmartThings. I’m just saying, if everything I had was wink, I wouldn’t bawk at 5$/month.
by (2.4k points)
@heinrike6802 and you can bet, they are setting the standard, whatever you have is gonna cost you soon enough, everything is going to subscription. wink is just first.

@cavanaugh you are right, or even worse, that one day they just cancel the cloud service and leave everyone hanging. That would be catastrophic for smartthings. That's why I'm creating my own hub.

@heinrike6802 too may of them out there to drop the cloud service, they would leave too much money sitting on the table, mark my words. Samsung is next to charge monthly fees.

I'll bet 60 dollars. That's the value of one years wink subscription!
