So I am working on automating the apartment. So far I have 3 merkury smart bulbs and 2 merkury electric outlets all running bvb through google assist. I saw on a video someone attached light strips around the facing of their pantry and put a motion sensor in the pantry to light it when opened. I want to do that in three closets but not sure how. What type of motion sensors/program or hub do I need? Would that be something I would need an alarm for?

Please fix the typos. It would make things easier to interpret!

That was a waste of a sentence. Are you not smart enough to figure it out?

@wabash88690 lol. Thanks for the comment. There's always one of those that will leave a snide comment instead of answering the question because of typo. Lol.

You could also use open close sensors.

@mariandi56178 thank you. Would just any sensor work? Would I need the IFTTT hub for it to function?

IFTTT is not a hub but I do recommend getting a Smartthings hub

@mariandi56178 ok cool. What is IFTTT considered? This is all new to me so I appreciate all the info I can get. Would I just get a door/window sensor for a home alarm system and use with the smartthings hub to turn on lights or is there a sensor designed to work with that hub?

IFTTT is a web service. It's all cloud based. Any zigbee or zwave sensor should work but you can always check compatibility first. Lots out there

This is a good case of not making it smart, but just using an led kit that has motion sensors built-in. Many cabinet led kits have this.
