Has anyone had success with finding a good smart outdoor padlock? Looking for something programmable for my shed.

I use a finger print padlock. Reliability is surprisingly excellent.

But security isn't (based on watching bosnianbill & lockpickinglawyer on youtube)

How can this be better than a key ?

Because I don't want to carry a key - and don't want to deal with re-keying it or having multiple for multuple people. I literally don't use keys for anything else - l don't want to for this use case either. I'd also like better controls to re-program (even if I did a twist dial numeric or letter lock), should I want/need to change the code.

@brewis79 you could literally say that about any smart home device.

@pearlypearman7 exactly. Easy example - breaking up with your significant other and needing to rekey a whole bunch of stuff. Or moving. I'd rather do it in an app in minutes. Or be able to easily give someone fast and easy temporary access.

I hope you find one you like, and I'm excited to see what the community comes up with for you. I, personally, have never even looked for a smart padlock. Out of my own personal inquisitiveness, why a smart padlock instead of a dumb combination lock? Many of those are programmable. Trust me, the irony of asking my question on a Smart Home group page is not lost on me!

@kym I have a preference that individuals have their own codes for things.

@twombly That makes perfect sense! Thank you!

He reviewed these awhile ago and they improved them. We have one at work and it works fairly well. You might check out the lockoickinglawyer in youtube and see if he has any videos he’s like the lock and padlock god.

Is there such thing as one of these without a fingerprint? Interested in giving people access remotely from my phone without having to have their fingerprint.

@incretion the main one I've seen is the masterlock one. Home Depot sells it. That's the one I am considering.

Padlocks are inherently insecure (smart or dumb) because of their physical size and exposure to attack. They all offer fairly low levels of security. Can you use something more integrated and protected? I use electronic locks on my shed (hidden in inside of door) and outdoor storage, with hidden RFID readers.
