Hi Guys, I'm looking to invest into Facebook Portals to stay in touch with family particularly for the elderly folk. Ive tried finding some positive reviews on the web but all i can find is negativity (cambridge analytica, privacy etc). I've conceded that your privacy is something you forfeit as a result of convenience otherwise throw out your smart phone. I was looking into the Facebook Portal TV model, which supports HDMI-CEC (which i can mess around with for HA). Anyone with a portal can share their experience?

I looked into on for the grandparent who live far away but I never understood what the portal offers that a webcam doesn’t? The hardware seems vanilla.

Yeah its more of less around the usability of it, less dependency on computers and peripherals. Just a simple experience (providing internet works)

Love mine for talking with grandparents and parents. If you can actually set it up in there house it’s a lot easier to accomplish and more streamline. It makes it very easy to communicate no computer not other things needed just a bam there’s a call touch answer and it’s all done. The large pictures of contacts makes it easy for them to see who they can call and the interface is easy. I just like how easy it is to use also the smart camera that follows you is neat so you can cook and talk and not worry about leaving the field of view. Side note if you have kids your parents would get a kick out of the story book mode.

@unscratched22963 awesome mate - just what I need to tip me over the line. Communication with grandparents and kids is a huge driver for me as well

@drama36 yeah the interactive stories have been a life saver during these past couple months of my kids not being able to see them. Plus my parents are the opposite of tech savvy and the interface makes it easy for them to understand! You’ll love them.
