Hi Guys and Gals, I am planning to upgrade my Internet router soon, just want see what people here use for their home automation? I have a Netgear R8000, recently it has been restarting alot even though there is no firmware updates running. I think it can't handle too many device connected to it. I'm looking for something that can handle the load.

I think we should have a common hash tag to flag posts like these so we can easily refer to them when someone wants to argue how much better wifi is for a home automation network than the "z" protocols.

@raddi A proper wifi network hand handle a ton of wifi devices.

@shingles any zigbee or zwave will handle a ton more. That's kind of the point, you don't need a high end network.

@raddi I think it's a personal choice. You can go the z way and pay more for devices and not worry about the network, or spend a little bit on a robust wifi network and buy the cheaper devices. One Unfi ACPro is like 130 bucks, that'll cover a whole house. I like being able to see what's doing what via my unfi controller, keep an eye on device signal and throughout etc.

I have a Smartthing Hub and Philips Hue setup, but just wanted to see what others are using as their Router in the home automation ecosystem.

@seamaid I'm also running Smartthings and Hue and Arlo with my Orbi mesh. Oh also Harmony Hub for AV stuff. No probs in my 3000ft2 home

Depends on your square footage and Wi-Fi needs on what you should get. Ubiquiti is great but if you live in 2000 sq ft, it’s a waste of money. If you have 5000+ sq ft, it will work well for you. I have a new-in-box Linksys AC5400 gaming router I can’t use. PM me for details if interested.

Google WiFi mesh

Definitely google WiFi mesh. I’ve had mine for about 2 years with no issues and great coverage. All my previous devices would start giving me issues after about a year.

The ASUS AX11000 is far better than any router I’ve ever owned. It is a tri-band that will support mesh if you need The coverage extends further than i thought possible. Install it in a high up location. Well worth every penny.
