Just curious what people here think of Insteon stuff. I like the dual band feature, but mostly because they chat over the power line rather than depending on WiFi, z-wave, etc. I haven’t seen anyone post about it. I have two homes with over ~100 devices in each home. Works with Alexa and google. Also programmable via ISY and other. That, and the paddle switches look clean with the white LEDs. I have troubleshooting stories, but overall, I’m pleased, even though it’s older tech. Thoughts?

My whole house is Insteon. I use both their hub and an ISY994 and I have their newest device sitting on the shelf awaiting some time to put it in. The more you add, the better it is since they are all repeaters for the automation network.

@mapping9577 one of my houses has a 400A service with two 200A service panels, each with a sub panel. Installing a phase coupler in each service panel was the best thing I ever did. No more dependence on RF to make the jump across phases.

@ecklund my installation is not that scale, however I learned early that a phase coupler was a must.

From the outside looking in they seem like nice but there just seem to be any news/development/progress for the brand unless I'm missing it?

@hartzel it’s been stagnant.

That's what I feared.

@hartzel I believe you have missed something.

My entire house is Insteon, wall switches, plug in modules, I/o Lincs. With Alexa & Insteon I can control virtually every light, fan etc. I wish I could do more conditional programming with the Hub but have not gone with an ISY.

But that's not an Insteon product. What are Insteon doing recently?

The last item on their press section is two years old.

I have a whole house of switches, fan mods, water sensors, and a hub. A few switches have needed replacement in 10 years, 10% maybe? But otherwise it's rock solid, always works. I mainly use Google and Alexa for the interface. The app SUCKS but is someday going to be updated, they promise. Things have been very quiet from Insteon lately.

Insteon is dead tech. They know it, which is why they do no advertising and haven't released any new devices in years. ISY is not an insteon owned product. Plus it's nowhere near what other controllers, like home assistant, Homeseer, OpenHAB, can do. I wrote up a long post about a month ago when the exact question was asked. Stick with zwave and zigbee until the big guys come out with a unified protocol (if they do).

There seem to still be a few lucky ones with not problems but Insteon was a way to try and extend X10 by adding RF to the power line protocol which just can not cut through all the noise on the lines these days. By the time I started looking at alternatives in 2104 I had as many line filters on non controlled devices as I had controls. Some say if I'd completely removed all the old gear and just went with Insteon I might have made it work but why? Almost nothing I've wanted to control or monitor lately has an Insteon option. The one thing I miss about Insteon was keypad controllers but I've gotten around that with Fire tablets scattered around.
