Different protocol that ST cannot directly communicate with.

It’s physically impossible since ST hubs doesn’t have a radio in that frequency.

I’ve got just one Caseta switch. Guess I’ll have to replace it. What is a good option for a “nicer” dimmer switch for my great room?

There isn't a nicer one. that is literally the best dimmer you can get. I would spend the $70 for a hub. In fact, i'm about to because i'm shutting off my Wink hub and my Caseta switches connect through it.

Like @burnoose said, these are among the nicest available. Lutron has been around forever. I have their hub sitting next to my ST hub and they work together well.

The hub is not very expensive, and if you get the kit it comes with a switch and a Pico remote, as well. I just switched out most of my light switches to Lutron Caseta, and I am very happy with the results.

Do you use the Caseta because there is no neutral wire? If yes, how any lights and their watts are on the switch?

Not sure if this question was intended for me or for someone else. My house is old, so pretty much everything has no neutral except the newer garage outbuilding. The move to Caseta was needed for that reason, but also beneficial because the system is so solid and it integrates with SmartThings. As an added bonus, I was able to get the switches in my garage, which is 50 feet away from the main house, to connect to the Lutron hub immediately, so now I can do lighting automation out there. The GE switches I tried before were not working.

@horning64 it's not just that. If you have three-way switches, one box won't have neutral, and possibly both of them because the neutral will be in the fixture. It's in fact quite common to run the wires from the light to the switch on 2-way as well.

@burnoose 3-way / add-ons are a non-issue for smart devices. Only need 2 wires.

The Bridge is about $80. You need that to use Lutron.

@photosphere478 You can get them for about half of that on eBay, but I would recommend ensuring that if you go that route, make sure the seller accepts returns in case it doesn’t work out.

@horseweed I got the package with the dimmer switch at Best Buy for about $100. Quickest safe way to get one.

@photosphere478 Great deal. I had issues with my first Lutron hub from eBay and finally got a working one after a return. When I got the Lutron Pro hub for my Hubitat, I gave up on eBay and just bought off Amazon when neither of the ones I got on eBay worked right.
