Question about Alexa enabled devices and IFTTT. So I wanted to know if ST can trigger scenes if a device is compatible with Alexa through IFTTT. For eg:- I am looking am planning to add this thermometer into my 3D Printer enclosure, and it is Alexa compatible, however, it does not say anything about IFTTT, I was wondering if a device is Alexa compatible does it also mean that an IFTTT scene can be created and thus triggered for ST?

Not necessarily. You need to determine if the device is IFTTT compatible. Alexa is generally a one way integration IN to Alexa - not the other way around.

Thanks, so i should be looking at a thermometer if it is IFTTT compatible to make it work with ST, and not alexa. is that right?

@lonna or directly SmartThings compatible ans skip the IFTTT part. The biggest part to remember is Alexa is one way integration IN not out.

If i have this right, So you want to for eg if temp gets to high on alexa linked thermometer then turn off 3D printer ST switch?

No, If the temp gets high on the alexa/ifttt thermometer then turn on a small fan I have inside the 3D Printer enclosure, this is to regulate the temperature and then turn the fan back off when the temperature drops to 50 deg below. The fan is connected through a z-wave outlet, and it will keep switching on and off depending on the temprature inside. For turning off the printer i have another scene that turns off the printer if smoke is detected in the printer enclosure. i have the z-wave smoke detector

@lonna you can do this all in Alexa. Expose the z wave outlet to Alexa, build a routine that turns the outlet on and off. Build a routine off of that.

Make an alexa routine that does this. Create a virtual switch in smartthings that triggers the Alexa routine. From my understanding, anything that is compatible with Alexa can be used with a virtual switch via routines.
