Is it possible to set up smart devices in multiple rooms that use same names, but that triggers the device based on the origin of the command and map to the coresponding room? Example, if I’m in the living room and say, “Alexa, set FAN to 50%. ” I’d like it to control the fan for the room the command originated in. If I walk into nursery and say, “Alexa, turn on Fan. ” I’d like it to turn that fan on but not impact the living room fan. Currently I have to name them like: Living Room Fan Master Bedroom Fan Nursery Fan It just makes voice commands through Alexa lengthy and challenging for the inexperienced to get the commands right.

You need to create rooms in the Alexa app and add the corresponding dot and other devices, then it will work the way you want.

In other words, create a group called "Living room", add your dot from that room, the fan, the lights, etc. Then when you say "turn off the lights" to that dot, it will know what to turn off.

Exactly what @hague said. You assign all devices in the room to a group.

This works with lights as you can say a switch controls a light by assigning "light" as the type to the switch. But, there is no such thing as a type of Fan.

@hague Which is the same amount of effort as saying den fan or kitchen fan. Give people a list.

Google home does the same if you set rooms, I can tell the living room Google to turn on the lights and it'll turn on just the lights in the living room, same with bedroom, turn off the lights and it turns off just the lights in the bedroom.
