@weakness209 it shows my devices and I’ve also read that it also acts as a smart hub am I wrong in saying that?

It’s just the app. Same thing you can get on a phone.

You can do a few things without a hub.

If I want to buy some SmartThings compatible cameras will they show on my tv when motion defects like my ring doorbell?
by (1.4k points)
No. You need a hub to add ring.

@weakness209 my doorbell works without a hub and it also says rest of ring cameras work without a hub?

Most cameras won't automatically pop up on the TV if there is motion, it depends on the app interface on the TV. Can you download apps from the Google Play Store or are there just a few apps built in? If you can download from the Play Store you can get most cameras to show up on the TV. Also are you planning to run POE cables to the cameras or are you looking for wireless with just power to be run to the cameras, or completely wireless (battery or solar powered) cameras? There are many options out there but your TVs capabilities will be the deciding factor. Many systems Like Ring, Nest, Arlo, Blue Iris, . can be presented on Android devices Blue Iris would likely need to use the IP Cam Viewer app on the TV, Arlo is free with 7 days of motion recording for up to 5 cameras, where as Ring and Nest recuire paid plans for recording storage, Blue Iris can be used to record and alert on motion for just about any IP camera that is RTSP or HVIF compliant (HikVision, Dahua, and many many more) and costs aroud $60 for the initial purchase of the software but no monthly cost but you need to install it on a Windows machine that needs to stay up all the time on your network and all storage is local so you purchase whatever size drive you want depending on how long you want recording to stay around, it also can support up to 64 cameras and since the storage is local it takes up almost no internet bandwidth compaired to the others, so it leaves more room for other things like streaming services. However each camera takes a little more time and effort to setup in Blue Iris since it isn't a proprietary system like Ring, Nest, or Arlo.

@durga the ST app on the TV will automatically show ST compatible cameras when they detect motion if you have it enabled. No separate app needed.

@crabstick4604 so can I buy a neos camera and will it pop up on my screen?
by (21.2k points)
@baker459 no, that’s not ST compatible

@crabstick4604 I want something like this that’s my ring doorbell I think the other ring cameras do it to but expensive
by (21.2k points)
@baker459 yeah, unfortunately that only works with ST compatible cams. In the USA that’s some ring cams, arlo cams and SmartThings cams.

@crabstick4604 what are SmartThings cams? How do I find them?

No it's confusing. They call their menu system the smart hub & it took me a while to figure that out

It really is dumb. The fridge with the screen is the "Family Hub" and also has no hub,
