Any recommendations for an adapter to make my gas fireplace smart? It is currently on a wall switch.

There is A LOT of recommendations in here, but none of them are worth a shit unless you know how your current switch works. Smart switches won't work it it is just a low voltage system (most are) because there won't be power to the switch to run the "smart" part of it.

What exactly are you trying to smarten? Turning it on/off? The wall switch is just a switch. Put in a smart switch.

I'm not an expert on fireplaces, but if yours requires a remote to turn it on/off then maybe you'd need this kind of thing. If yours turns on/off directly from the wall switch, then any smart switch should be fine. They are just standard light switches in every case I've ever come across. Call a pro if you're unsure. Better safe than sorry.

@erymanthus8646 but the switches usually don't have power to them. Usually just low voltage.

@betthezel That's why I said I'm not an expert and to consult a pro. In my houses in the western US, they are line voltage switches and there's a transformer in the fireplace.

@erymanthus8646 you are lucky, that makes it easy. All 3 that I've messed with have all had power at the fireplace, but the switch to turn it on is wired with thermostat or doorbell low voltage wiring, and just activates a relay under the fireplace to light it.

@betthezel Mine have all been integrated units with circulation fans. The low voltage transformer is inside the main control unit. Maybe it's regional, maybe it depends on how old the units in question are, etc.

Could be a code thing. no idea.

Mine is a millivolt system. I use a 2 sonoffs and a dry relay board. So both sonoff must be on for the gas to turn on. A safety measure. One of the sonoff linked to temp sensor to maintain temp in room.

My gas fireplace had a switch but it was bell wire. I had power in the box though. I wired the smart switch in then fed it to a small relay for bell wire and it works great.

Just remove the relay from the black base so it fits in the gang box

Broadlink RM-Mini3 Black Bean if you have an RF remote and Alexa. Then create virtual Alexa switches exposed in SmartThings. Additionally you could use a smart plug to monitor power to cover physical with a remote. I do this to turn my electric fire on/off. I can also control heating with it but decided not to for safety. Update: just noticed you have a gas fireplace so maybe this wouldn't work, but could be of interest for those that have an electric Fireplace with remote.

Mine has an outlet inside the bottom of the fireplace that feeds a transformer. The low side of the transformer goes to the switch. I just cut a 9' extension cord in half, ran the 2 ends up to the switch, and wired it up accordingly.

Low voltage smart relay gets it into ST and Alexa/Google/Cortana/etc. Harmony Elite is just icing on the cake.

@befuddle5693 how you integrate the relays with smartthings?

@pneumatology96216 The relay is just another switch. The only difference is it had to be connected to a 120 for the Zwave power. The low voltage went to the fireplace switch.

I used the Remotec ZFM80, I think. Worked well. Only problem is that the switches are on outer walls, which means you might have to 90-degree drill through a stud to get to power (which I had to do, and fish the line through insulation). I had to cut drywall and patch as well.
