I always go wired over WiFi whenever I can. It’s more stable and will allow your other WiFi devices to work better because there is less traffic.

If ethernet is a option go with that. I dont think speed will be any different as its not large amounts of data passing through. However ethernet is more stable . That being said mine has been on wifi since day 1 due to its location and not had a problem. If wifi is preferable for you then try it. Any problems then plug it in

I want to have my hub wired too, but all the manuals and recommendations say not to place the hub next to your router.?

Placing any RF devices very close to each other can cause mutual interference, so best avoided. Particularly true for a WiFi router and any ZigBee hub (like ST) since they share the same 2. 4GHz band. A separation of 30+ cm should be sufficient, but as long as you avoid stacking them or touching, you probably will be OK.
