Anyone had success putting a smart switch on a half hot receptacle? Specifically I tried the inovelli red series today without success. Any tips? I was able to get power to the switch but the outlet did not turn on and off with switched. Is this even a possible solution?

When you say half hot you must be talkin about a switched receptacle. Thankspically the hot wire who will be in the receptacle box and then a hot wire is sent to the switch box with a switch leg returning to the half of the receptacle. And typically the neutral stays in the receptacle box so there is normally no neutral in the switch box.

@rosalba so no neutral would mean no smart switch without adding wiring. Right?

@conradconrade10 no I'm pretty sure there's a few smart switches that don't require neutral.

I think he means constant power to 1 of the 2 outlets, the tab broken off between the two brass terminals, and the other terminal with power being switched. Depends on the wiring. My home had no ceiling lights in the bedrooms. Power came into the switch, then 14/3 fed the first outlet near the door. Top outlet was switched. Bottom outlet was hot. But this will only work if power starts at the switch.

@ides8 I am thinking the power is at the outlet. However, the box does have 3 switches. Can I steal power from there somehow?

Yes a half hot outlet. So one side is controlled by the switch on the wall. The other has constant power.

I have switched outlet (half is hot all the time and half from the switch on the wall). However, I had a neutral in the switch's box, so I put in a Z-wave on/off in-wall switch and it works just fine.

@georgie I have a neutral bc the switch is in a 3 gang box. However it didn’t work

@conradconrade10 Do you have before and after photos? I would think it should work fine. unless I'm missing something.
