Just looking for some clarification on switches. I see in the app that tp link is a choice for switches. To my knowledge they are wifi. Adding them through the app still will have them showing up on my router device list? I want similarly priced switches that connect direct to hub.

Wifi switches won't work directly with ST.

Is there any z wave switches that are at that price point?

@betthezel there is an integration for them now

@bcd I've never looked at the wifi switches, so I don't know what the price point is, but zwave can be found on sale for under $30.

@hague nice! Good to know. I have zero desire to add wifi switches to my network, but I do have a couple that are just out of reach of zwave, that I could use some wifi switches on!

That is correct. The TP link Kasa integration with SmartThings is cloud to cloud. Doesn’t go through your hub at all.

And any automations that you add them to will therefore be cloud based as well. So if you have certain automations that run locally with just zwave and zigbee devices, and want to keep them local, dont add wifi devices to them

Well, pretty much all automations right now are cloud based, even for hub connected devices. But they are working on changing that hopefully by the end of 2020. And that would only be for hub connected devices. Ao I’d plan ahead and get zwave and zigbee devices as much as possible.
