I built some temp sensors with the Konnected code on a generic NodeMCU board and in SmartThings, water proof enclosure, and some temp sensing leads from Amazon. I think each assembly with two Smartthings connected temperature sensors cost me under $20 and a bit of time. One does beer fridge / freezer temp and one does pool water and air temp. Fridge one shown in picture - pool one has longer power lead and longer water temp lead.

@erotica but isn’t that an electrocution hazard in a pool? Needs to be battery operated and either Wi-Fi/zwave rather than wall plugin.

These are WiFi, and the electronics don't go in the pool. The housing is waterproof for splash protection and the board runs off a Mcro-USB connection, and run back far enough to a pool shed I have with outlets for other devices. Unfortunately these are now unavailable, but I use these 3 meter long temperature probes for in the pool -

Internals of the fridge version I built shown based on various instructions I found online. Once the box is closed up and the cable glands are tightened up, the electronics are protected and still able to connect to SmartThings via WiFi.

@erotica gotcha. Just thinking any surge through the equipment could still push its way through the sensors. But I’m no electrician. Plus GFCI protections should help. Just curious as I’ve been interested in similar but wasn’t sure how to tackle.

It's DC low voltage over USB once it leaves the wall wart, which is in an in-use weatherproof cover on the outlet. One of the lower chances of electric problems out by my pool at least. They are all GFCI outlets, though.

With something as big as a swimming pool, and it's thermal mass, wouldn't it be difficult to balance this? Don't know the answer, but interested to know.
