May I know if I have changed my broadband router, in order to change the Smartthings hub V3 device password, it seems that I have to hard reset the ST hub. Does this mean that go through the hub registration process again?

Just login to your router set the WiFi name and password same as your old one. Saves you reconnecting everything plus the ST hub will just connect

Like @naturalize said. Change the new SSID and password of he new router to the same as your old one. Everything will connect as normal saving you heaps of messing changing passwords of all other connecting devices

Is there a way to backup and restore settings or configurations?

Saving and restoring wifi router configurations depends entirely on the manufacturer and model of router. Some have it. Some don't. Saving and restoring configurations for smartthings is not an option at this time. However, that's usually only an issue if you actually need to change to a new ST hub. Since most of the ST configuration is in the cloud, doing a reset on the physical hub doesn't erase the configuration. You just need to get the hub reconnected and the settings and configuration should be restored from the cloud.

@ondrej Thanks Previously it seems that we can change the ST hub internet but the new version force you to reset the hub. As you have pointed out, the settings n configurations are safe in the could and will be restored. In this case, is ok to reset right? The main reasons I need to change the router's SSID/PW is because the neighbours have access to my router. There were 2 rooms rented to students too. Thank you

Then you'll need to change the ssid and password for any wifi devices on your network. How you do that depends on the individual devices. Most wifi "smart" devices have their own setup procedures and you'll probably need to set them up one at a time. As for the Smartthings hub, unless you have it linked to the router by wifi, the wifi changes shouldn't effect it.

BTW, there are some wifi routers that have a secondary guest access ssid. For your situation (sharing wifi with students) you might want to see if your router has the guest wifi feature (or get one that does). Alternatively, you might want to get a cheap 2nd wifi router and set up a separate ssid/pw for the students.

Sharing your primary (house security and control) network with students is going to be an ongoing problem. A second access point you can change the password on every time you get new tenants is a cheap way to keep your sanity. Just set it to a different wifi channel than your main wifi and keep both routers at least 5ft from the Smartthings hub.

Changing the individual wifi devices should be enough.

Or are you using the 3rd gen smartthings wifi mesh pucks?

@ondrej yup, V3 ST Hub

Then I'm confused. Is it the Smartthings wifi that you need to change? Or a different wifi router?

I'm changing the router with a new SSID/PW, maintain existing V3 ST hub

To answer your original question, no. You should not need to reset or reconfigure your Smartthings hub. As others have said, just set the new router's access point name (ssid) and password to the same as your old wifi router and everything should be fine.
