Brian Beaird I need your help since you are an expert in MyQ or if anyone else could chime in. I got the MyQ garage door opening working with ST. But, I having an issue with the tilt sensor. I'm using the SmartThings multi-purpose sensor 2nd generation and it's not giving me updates on if the garage is actually open or closed. Am I doing something wrong? Should I not use the SmartThings multi-purpose sensor? Is it better to use the EcoLink tilt sensor? Just letting you know, I used the device handler without the tilt sensor when I first programmed everything since I didn't have the tilt sensor up. Then I installed the device handler with the tilt sensor. I don't know if that made a difference or not. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

The sensor has to be positioned in a certain way

@verdha Does the contact sensor need to be installed also next to the multi sensor?

@neutralism I don't believe so. But it does allow it to stick to the door by the magnet instead of taping it to the door.

Oops, here are some pics

@neutralism if you snap the other side to it, it will stick to the door without tape. Rotate your sensor with the flat to the right. See what happens?

@verdha okay, I tried it and at first it didn't work but now it says it's closed after I open and then close the garage. It seems like there is a delay of 2-4 minutes before lets me know that the garage is closed. Does this happen to you or do you notice it immediately after closes?

@neutralism I notice it right away. Do you have a repeater close by?
by (1.8k points)
It's not working. boo. it's been closed for over 30 minutes and it's still showing open.
by (1.8k points)
@verdha no repeater nearby except for something down in the basement. But the hub is only 15 feet away. It's a attached garage

@neutralism ok. You should be good. Move the sensor so it's on the flat part of the door instead. Try that. Mine has worked flawless for a while now.

@neutralism it won't work like that. It only reports closed when it is straight up and down.

@doze10 ok. I'll try it tomorrow.
by (1.8k points)
@verdha I'll try that. I just saw some other people use the Eco link garage tilt sensor on a 45 degree angle

The sensor has to be mounted flat against the door panel. Not on an angle brace

@onerous correct. Put it right on the door itself.

My multipurpose sensor worked flawlessly for several months and then started acting up. After a couple of false alarms that I left home with my garage door open, i replaced my multipurpose sensor with a wired one. I use the konnected. io product to get it tied back into SmartThings.

Does the tilt sensor ever report open? Do you have it setup as a tilt sensor vs a contact sensor?
by (1.8k points)
@lim10 yes, I did as a tilt sensor

If you use ifttt you can use the tilt sensor from the myq. Saves a sensor! Mine works flawlessly!

@maytime I might try this if this doesn't work. Thank you for your advice

@maytime I’m just starting with myq and ST hub. Can you point me to info to start from the beginning?

The one thing I just noticed was the MyQ lite is not on the garage door opener, only on the tilt sensor device. Is that my issue?

Put the sensor flat on the door instead of the angle brace. Recalibrate and it will work.
by (1.8k points)
@mattson ok, can you explain about recalibration the sensor? Thank you

Get it flat against the door rather than angled.

@scarlettscarp will do. Thank you

IT WORKs! Thank you everybody for your suggestions and comments.

@neutralism what did you end up doing
by (1.8k points)
@verdha two things I did. I put the multi sensor in a vertical position instead of the 45 degree angle. The reason why I did at a 45 degree angle was because somebody was using a ecolink tilt sensor and they had it at a 45 degree angle. That's what I thought I had to do with this one so quickly trigger. For some odd reason I had to MyQ lite smart apps. I just deleted one of them. But I don't think that was the issue.
