So I don’t have a fancy aircon with thermostat (so Nest & Ecobee are out) but only four different split air cons. What are your thoughts on best option for integration and usage with Smarthings? I’d obviously need four devices.

Sensibo or Tado both make ac controllers. I have sensibo on my split but Tado on my heating. When I renovate my house, I will probably give tado a go everywhere.

@poetize haha, is where I live! Sensibo is brilliant and I would only think about changing it to keep it all on the same system. If your units have a remote control, you can be pretty certain the sensibo will control them. Good luck whatever you end up trying.

Sensibo is great. There's a custom device handler that enables everything.

My first post here, so excuse any mistakes! I operate my main lounge aircon here in Thailand via Smartthings and Google. 'Hey Google, Aircon ON'. Simple On/Off installation on a three phase 13. 5kW aircon unit. 3x220V. Cost of installation about 37USD. Conventional Z-Wave power plug unit (23$) is wired to activate an electro-magnetic switch. (Fuji FC-O unit. see pic. 14$). The EM switch is wired in the power lines to the Aircon unit after the main isolator in the utility cabinet. EM switch can easily handle the three phases. Switch the aircon on with the remote and leave it ON. Activate the EM switch via the Power Plug unit . and presto Aircon ON/Aircon OFF. I can post more pics if above explanation is insufficient.

Correct. no sensor. Just on/off. It is basically a replacement for the remote on/off. which we never can find when we need it, or it is in the wrong room. I guess a the power-plug unit could be switched on/off via a sensor with logic in Smarththings

I was talking to some guys at the golf club about Smartthings and one guy said. would be great to be able to turn on my aircon at home just when I had the last beer at the club. I had all the parts lying around and so this simple installation to demo the functionality.

Depending on your A/C, get yourself a simple (cheap) smartplug or switch (I use sonoff) and some temperature sensors (I use xiaomi). Then run a virtual thermostat. Total setup was less than 20 buckd

@poetize Yes, I was just being cheap  The thing to understand is that temperature sensors don't have the ability in ST to switch things on or off, they simply report temperature. That is the difference between a temperature sensor and thermostat, thermostats do control/switch things.

@poetize Yes, you could then add time zones and even presence awareness if you want
