I've seen some discussion about Sonos that makes me hesitant to go that route for speakers. Heard a lot of talk about Echo Dot. So that is certainly an option Anyone have any success with Anker? I've got a Bluetooth speaker that has held up like a champ and the volume is actually really good. That little speaker has been all over the world and back numerous times and has been pretty much abused but it's still working great. Battery life is great. Only drawback is it says you're not supposed to plug it in while you're using it which obviously could be a real bummer. But we've had it for at least five to seven years so maybe they've come out with other things

The echo is pretty good for such a small device

Do you want a toy or a real home audio system?

Can you elaborate on what you've heard about Sonos? Unless someone is a real audiophile, I can't imagine Sonos not being a great solution, with even just their amp and some less expensive speakers.

@woodhead, can you elaborate? The sound quality of Sonos speakers is average, however the price is premium due to functionality. I bought the Sonos speakers because of their functionality and have not regretted it until today. When i purchased the speakers i was not informed that in about 7 years time they could lose functionality! If it is not known yet, Sonos just announced dropping support for its pre-2013 devices which means that some 7 years old devices will no longer receive updates and they will start loosing some of the features they had at the time of purchase. Sonos didn't inform me at the time of purchase that their speakers would become obsolete in such a short period of time - I wouldn’t have purchased them if that was the case! I don't want new features on my Sonos speakers, i want them to retain the very same features they had at the time of purchase, regardless of whether we are in 2020 or 2030. I bought speakers that i would expect to work as per purchase for 15 to 20 years as most high priced audio equipment does. So my recommendation is to exclude Sonos from any wish-list you may have.

If the sound quality on Sonos is average what is it on an echo dot?

One thing people have to keep in mind is the sonos products in question wont stop working once that date hits. For all we know it could be years before a service requires an update that actually breaks the system.

If you bought an all in one speaker, amp, wifi connected product and expected it to work for 20 years I dont don’t know what to tell you.

The sound of Amazon's speaker may be bad, but with the price of a Sonos One you may fill up your home with Echoes. I assume that people buying Echoes do it mostly due to the multiroom functionality and Alexa. As i said above the functionality of Sonos is unmatched, whereas their speakers are decent/average. Would you rather invest loads of money in something that could get discontinued in 7 years if not earlier? I believe that it's rational to go with anything else but Sonos at the moment unless money do not represent an issue to you.

. or just do it the right way and connect a sonos player to your own amp/speakers.
