I used to be able to ask Alexa the temperature of a room. Since I did a complete wipe and added things back, I no longer have that functionality. Could anyone tell me what app or setting I could have missed?

Do you have a smart thermostat in those rooms?

Did you put the sensor into rooms/locations?

This^ I believe you need to have your dot and thermostat in a group together for it to work. At least that is how it works with lights.

I had the same issue. She was able to report temperatures from SmartThings multisensors, and lately says they “don’t support that. ”

Curious to see how this works.

If I ask Alexa the temperature of the actual device name then it works. It has always been the same way for me. Example: "Alexa, what's the temperature of the garage motion sensor . "

@miaow What neil mentioned should work. And if it does, you should be able to associate that device with a room and get the functionality you want out of it.

@miaow I know exactly what you're talking about. e. g. I have a motion sensor with built-in temp sensor sitting on a crossbeam up in my attic. I have a room in Alexa Groups named Attic. I have that device in that room. I ask "Alexa, what's the temperature in the attic? ". Alexa responds with, "The temperature in the attic is x degrees". As of right now, this is still working in my case. As far as I am aware, I didn't have to install any skill, or turn on any particular setting to get this to work.

@miaow I think the reason this works is because the temperature sensor is assigned to the room group in the same manner that you can turn off any lights assigned to the room group by just asking alexa to turn off the lights. (assuming the speaker/device is associated to the same room also)

@miaow No, but I do have Echo Speaks. However, this has nothing to do with that. I know, because this behavior was 'normal' in my experience before I installed that. I'm pretty confident that this is just something Alexa does. We just need to figure out why it's not working in your system anymore. ___________________________ Can you do this to test it? 1. Concerning one of your smart devices that has temp sensor, remove it completely from Alexa (i. e. remove it from the list of available devices for the Alexa SmartApp within the SmartThings mobile app, AND remove it from Alexa's list of devices within the Alexa mobile app. 2. Remove that same device completely from any and all other SmartApps in your SmartThings system. 3. Remove that device from your SmartThings system. Once you have confirmed that it has been completely removed, 4. Add it back to SmartThings 5. In the Alexa SmartApp within the SmartThings mobile app, add it as a device which is available to Alexa. 6. Have Alexa discover new devices. Re-check to see that it appears in the list of devices before moving on. 7. In the devices section in the Alexa mobile app, create a new group that will be used for this test (named whatever) 8. In the Alexa mobile app, add this device to that new group. 9. Ask Alexa what the temperature is in that group. This won't necessarily solve the whole thing, but it will give you an important piece of data to go on.

@miaow Oh, good. You're welcome! :-) So, is it back to normal operation now?
